BEWARE, GRUESOME!
The annual Giro d’Italia is a race of juxtapositions. On the one hand, spectators have the brilliant backdrops of the Italian countryside calmly rolling by as the riders pass. On the other hand, though, you have this — a hideous crash that resulted in one rider’s arm bending in a way it most definitely shouldn’t.
Here is the slow-motion video of it, with an after math picture.
Nippo Vini Fantini cyclist Daniele Colli’s race ended on Thursday when he went down during Stage 6’s sprint finish. According to the team’s Twitter account, the 33-year-old broke his arm in the collision that involved several other riders, including race leader Alberto Contador.
“Daniel is alert, has a broken arm and went to the hospital for an examination,” the team said.
If you want to see commentary of the race before, during, and after the crash, here are the last few minutes of the race.
