Many people think of fidgets as toys or things to kill time. But, these are much more than that. Used as self-regulation tools, fidget tools help improve your focus, listening skills and controls restlessness. Often referred to by various names such as tangles, stress balls and squiggles, these are available in varied shapes, textures and sizes.
In preliminary work published as a presentation for the 8th International Conference on Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction, Michael Karlesky and Katherine Isbister theorize that fidget widgets are “playful, secondary interactions able to engage the interrelation of bodily movement, affective state, and cognition to support primary serious tasks.”
Here are some of the wonderful benefits of using fidget toys:
1) Fidget toys for adults as well as children help promote movement and tactile input that is critical for learning and concentration. If you have a short attention span, it may affect productivity and using fidget toys could be useful in such cases.
2) These are an effective medium to vent your anger or frustration. Instead of getting involved in a fight or continue arguing, you can use fidget toys to distract yourself.
3) Fidget tools are a boon for adults and children suffering from psychological disorders such as Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Sensory Integration, ADHD, ADD, ASD, Trichotillomania, SPD, Anxiety, Stress and Narcolepsy. It helps absorb extra energy, stimulates one’s mind and helps regulate the direction of movement.
