If you're shopping for big-ticket things like TVs and furniture online or in shops, the U.S. The Consumer Product Protection Commission (CPSC) reminds consumers that this holiday season is a good day to shop with safety in mind every day. Experts say businesses are betting on customers during the COVID-19 pandemic to buy products that will make home life more enjoyable. CPSC's Anchor It! with TVs and furniture high on gift-shopping lists. The campaign encourages customers to buy and mount an anti-tip (anchor) system if the product does not have one. Tip-overs cause young children's deaths and injuries, and they occur more often than people would expect.
Some retailers or wholesalers or furniture manufacturers have product anchoring restrictions and encourage anchoring protection in educational materials and on their websites. CPSC encourages all furniture, considering the danger posed to children, to take caution and raise the safety standard of their product marketing.
For any home where children live or visit, adopt these safety tips:
• Anchor TV’s and furniture, such as bookcases and dressing tables or any other furniture should be secured to the wall.
• Place TVs on a robust, low base and push the TV back as far as possible, particularly when it is not possible to anchor.
• Avoid showing or storing objects in areas where children can be tempted to climb up to reach them, such as toys and remotes.
