Why You're Not Losing Belly Fat
It is often the hardest and the most embarrassing weight to lose: the dreaded belly fat. You're working out, eating right, and you're still not losing the weight? There might be some other reasons why the fat just won't budge:
1. You're getting older I know, I know, not the news you wanted to hear. Wrinkles, a slower metabolism, and weaker bones PLUS now the hormones that are shifting because of age is making you hold onto that little belly of yours. But don't fret - there are ways to fight it! 2. You're eating the wrong fats Your body doesn't react to all fats in the same way. Saturated fats, for example, are killer when it comes to losing weight. On the other hand, monounsaturated fats like those found in nuts (omega-3s, etc) have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, and if eaten in proper portions may do your body good.
3. You're stressed The body is a weird little machine that reacts to outside factors in ways we often don't notice. The stress hormone cortisol may actually increase the amount of fat your body clings to and enlarge your fat cells! 4. You're not sleeping enough A 16-year study of almost 70,000 women found that those who slept five hours or less a night were 30% more likely to gain 30 or more pounds than those who slept 7 hours! Go catch some Zzzzs!
5. Your workout is challenging enough To banish stubborn belly fat, you have to ramp up your workouts. It's all about high-intensity! Go for interval training that leaves you breathing heavily and sweating!
6. You're apple shaped If you tend to pack the pounds around your middle rather than your hips and thighs, then you're apple shaped. This genetic quality means ridding yourself of belly fat will be harder, but not impossible.
