~ Halloween Adult Beverage Recipes ~
There are many great cocktails for Halloween and many of them, shall we say, are more gimmick than taste. This list, on the other hand, is all about the taste and is filled with great 'martinis' that are styled to be flavorful party cocktails while retaining some of the creepy fun that is Halloween. From 'deadly' classics to frightful modern mixes, this list is filled with some of the best drinks you'll serve at your Halloween party. Black Magic You will need: 1/4 cup ice 1/2 cup orange juice 1 1/2 ounces black vodka 1/2 ounce triple sec orange wedge, for garnish Prep: 1. In a cocktail shaker, add orange juice and triple sec over ice. Shake well, and strain into a glass. 2. Using the back of a spoon, pour black vodka slowly into a glass so that the vodka sits atop the orange juice and triple sec mix. 3. Carefully dip one edge of the orange wedge into the vodka for a spooky presentation, and sit the wedge on the rim of the glass. Ghost Buster Cocktail No ghosts in this house, at least not tonight. The Ghostbuster is a fun, simple, neat cocktail that is full of wonderful flavors. The drops of Irish cream create a ghost-like figure in the middle of the glass, making it a great novelty for Halloween. You will need: 1 ounce peach schnapps 1 ounce melon liqueur 3-5 drops of Irish cream liqueur Prep: Pour the peach schnapps and melon liqueur into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add the Irish cream drop by drop into the center of the drink. The Halloween Hypnotist The Halloween Hpnotist is another great drink with a spooky, yet beautiful, look that features Hpnotiq liqueur. The drink itself is quite simple - the beautiful blue, fruit liqueur, vodka and lemon juice - but it is the unique 'garnish' that really sets this one apart and it's certainly not edible. It's simple: find a bunch of 3-4 inch, blue glow sticks, crack them after you pour the drink and lay them inside the glass. ((Be sure to rinse the sticks and check them for any leaks as the fluids inside are toxic.)) You will need: 2 ounces Hpnotiq liqueur 1 ounce super premium vodka Splash of lemon juice *Glow stick for garnish Prep: Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lit glowstick. Jack-O-Lantern Cocktail This Jack-O-Lantern cocktail looks like a pumpkin when garnished correctly, but it tastes nothing like a pumpkin. It's a great drink that mixes Cognac with orange (always a good combination) and it has the visual aesthetics that are perfect for Halloween. You will need: 1 ounce Hennessy VSOP Cognac 1 1/2 ounces orange juice 1/2 ounce ginger ale 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier orange liqueur Orange wheel and lime twist for garnish Prep: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a old-fashioned glass over fresh ice. Float an orange wheel with a lime twist poked into the top. Vampire The Vampire cocktail is very similar to the Black Cat, the only difference being that the Vampire does not include cola. This is an excellent choice for a lowball drink that Halloween party guests will really enjoy. This drink is also known as Purple Haze. You will need: 1 1/2 ounces vodka 1/2 ounce black raspberry liqueur Cranberry juice Prep: Pour the vodka and black raspberry liqueur into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Skeletons in Your Closet This Skeletons in Your Closet recipe is a fruit-filled margarita on the rocks that is a fun addition for Halloween parties. It pairs tequila with DeKuyper's Island Blue Tropical Schnapps, pineapple, and mango and, while not the best, it's a pretty good mix. You will need: 1 1/2 parts Hornitos Plata Tequila 1 part DeKuyper Island Blue Tropical Schnapps 1 part pineapple juice 1 part mango juice Prep: Rim a margarita glass with salt. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain over ice into the prepared margarita glass. Black Cat Cocktail This is one Black Cat that you won't mind crossing your path. At first glance you may think that the flavor combination is a little strange.. Think of it as a spiked cherry cola with a cranberry twist. If you don't have cherry brandy, a cherry liqueur like maraschino will work just fine. You will need: 1 ounce vodka 1 ounce cherry brandy Cranberry juice Cola Prep: Pour the spirits into a highball glass filled with ice. Fill the glass with equal amounts of cranberry juice and cola. Stir. Swamp Water Surprise Get a little creepy with this swampy cocktail that is perfect for a Halloween party. The Swamp Water Surprise is, admittedly, more gimmick than anything else, though the rum-orange mix is not half bad. If you want to add to the murkiness, use orange juice with a lot of pulp. The optional "surprise" is a plasma-like substance made of spiked gelatin that floats in the murky-colored liquid and it can be any color/flavor you like - there really are no 'rules' with this one. You will need: 2 ounces rum 1/4 ounce blue curaçao 1 ounce orange juice 1/2 ounce lemon juice 1 package of Jell-O (optional) 1 cup boiling water (optional) 3/4 cup vodka (optional) Prep: Pour the rum, blue curaçao and juices into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. The Surprise: (optional) Prepare ahead of time so that it's ready when you've finished shaking the Swamp Water. Dissolve the Jell-O in boiling water. Add the vodka and set it in the freezer. Just before the Jell-O gels up, whip it with a whisk. Let it set for at least 5 minutes. Carefully spoon The Surprise into the glass of Swamp Water. Devil's Punch The Devil's Punch is an easy tequila cocktail that pairs the Mexican spirit with a couple of fruit flavors. The sweetness of lemoncello counteracts the sour mix and mixes nicely with the agave flavor of a good blanco tequila. This citrus cocktail is perfect for Halloween parties or any occasion throughout the year. Increase this recipe to fill a punch bowl by keeping the ratio of 2 parts tequila, 1 part each orange liqueur, limoncello, sour mix, and 1/4 part orange juice. You will need: 2 ounces tequila 1 ounces orange liqueur 1 ounces lemoncello 1 ounces sour mix Dash of orange juice Prep: Pour the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Strain into a sour or highball glass. Dracula's Kiss Dracula's Kiss is a haunting cocktail for Halloween parties. The drink creates two layers: the bottom is red with grenadine and the top is black with cola. Add spiders to the drink or hang them on the glass for a ghoulish finishing touch. You will need: 1 ounce black cherry vodka 1/2 ounce grenadine Cola Maraschino cherries for garnish Prep: Coat the bottom of a highball glass with grenadine. Add ice and vodka. Fill with cola. Garnish with cherries. Black Widow Shot! You will need: 1 1/2 ounces black vodka, chilled 1/2 ounces cranberry juice, chilled 1 cherry, for garnish red sugar crystals, for rim. Prep: 1. Fill a small cocktail glass with ice. 2. Rim glass with red sugar crystals. 3. Pour cranberry juice over ice, and gently layer black vodka over juice. 4. Garnish with a cherry. Pumpkin Spice Halloween Punch Pumpkin pie spice and apple cider lend autumnal flavor to this Halloween take on classic sangria. Serve in a hollowed-out pumpkin for a dramatic presentation. You will need: 2 honeycrisp apples 2 pears 1 orange 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup brown sugar, or more to taste 1 cup bourbon 3 cups apple cider 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice 2 bottles pinot grigio, chilled 1 pumpkin, for serving (optional) Prep: Thinly slice apples, pears and oranges lengthwise, then place in a large bowl. Coat with lemon juice to prevent browning. Add honey, brown sugar, bourbon, apple cider and pumpkin pie spice, stirring gently to combine. Cover and refrigerate for 2-4 hours, or overnight. Top with chilled pinot grigio and serve. For Serving: Serve in a pitcher or punch bowl, or give the punch extra Halloween flavor by serving inside a Jack O' Lantern. Cut a circle in the top of a large pumpkin, then completely remove seeds and pulp. Fill with fruit and punch, then enjoy! Tip: Decorate the exterior of pumpkin using a silver paint marker. Here, the cocktail name lets guests know what's inside. Enjoy! Those of you with plans for Halloween Parties, give it a try! :))
