Taufik Hidayat quits

Indonesian badminton star Taufik Hidayat announced on Wednesday that he was done competing in a sport that held him in the spotlight for 13 years. Taufik said that he had considered the retirement plan for some time but decided to wait until after the 2012 London Olympics. “I have long considered my retirement plan, but first I wanted to prepare myself for the Olympics,” Taufik told reporters at his home in Jakarta. Taufik lost to his long-term adversary and current world number one Lin Dan of China in the last-16 matchup of the London Olympic badminton competition. Before his career had begun to fade in the last few years, Taufik was the 2004 Athens Olympics gold medalist. The 31-year-old has also enjoyed his position as the world number one and won several prestigious championships, including the Asian Games and Indonesia Open. Taufik said that he was satisfied with his badminton career. He said that younger shuttlers should take the lead and replace him.

Dwight Howard + Lakers = NBA Championship Ring?

Just read this article on how Dwight Howard will fit in with the Lakers and their chances of winning the Title. Very itneresting read. ========================== San Antonio's savvy veterans have been outsmarted. Oklahoma City's freakish athletes have been . . . well, let's not get ridiculous here. The Lakers are not a perfect team, nor are they foolproof picks to win the 2013 NBA title just because Dwight Howard now graces a roster that also includes Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Steve Nash. But any bet on them to edge out top challengers involves smarter money than it did a few days ago.
