8 on-screen romances we wish were real
With the big news that the stars of Hana Yori Dango have been secretly dating for 9 years, now seems like the perfect time to discuss a few other on-screen romances we hope will boil over into real-life love stories. 1. So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin - Master’s Sun So Ji Sub and Gon Hyo Jin from Master’s Sun are like salty and sweet onscreen, a deliciously perfect pairing. Their chemistry in Master’s Sun launched a thousand shippers (myself included), and the behind-the-scenes clips from the show reveal that chemistry wasn’t all just great acting. Even though Gon Hyo Jin just announced she is seeing Lee Jin Wook, I am still holding out hope for a Big Sun romance. 2. Krystal Jung and Kang Min Hyuk - Heirs They won DramaFever’s 2013 award for best couple, beating out Kim Tan and Eun Sang among others. Everything about them in Heirs was adorable, and they managed to steal every scene they were in. If they can't be in love in real life, at least have them together again in another drama soon, okay? 3. Choi Min Ho and Choi Seol Ri (Sulli) -To the Beautiful You I am such a shipper for these two. I’ve even watched YouTube conspiracy videos that try to link them together. Either Choi Min Ho is the best actor ever, or there was some real romance mojo working for them during To the Beautiful You. Fingers crossed for the latter. 4. Lee Hong Ki and Yang Jin Sung - Bride of the Century Jeremy! Lose the blond hair and you are pretty dreamy. I hope these two are sharing a sweet potato in real life. 5. Park Shin Hye & Yong Hwa - Heartstrings Park Shin Hye has had plenty of amazing romantic pairings, and I am pretty sure her acting is so good that she could make you believe she was in love with Pororo, but her chemistry with Yong Hwa in both You’re Beautiful and Heartstrings feels so real. Obviously, I can’t be the only one who loves them together since they paired up for two shows. Please, please let this duet one day be real. 6. Kim Hyun Joong & Jung So Min - Playful Kiss If Kim Hyun Joong can’t love me, he should at least love Jung So Min. She is adorable. 7. George Hu and Annie Chen - Love Around and Love Now These two starred in back-to-back Taiwanese dramas Love Around and Love Now. And though their characters were different, their chemistry remained crackling. Coincidence? Or a clue that on-screen chemistry could bubble over into real life? 8. Bae Su Ji (Suzy) and Taecyeon - Dream High I am always rooting for Taecyeon, and he is always rooting for Suzy. Ergo, I root for them together. Bonus: My Favorite Real-Life Couple that should be in a show together: Rain and Kim Tae Hee The internet went crazy when Rain and Kim Tae Hee announced they were dating. In my fantasy, this real-life couple would take that authentic chemistry, pair up with the Hong Sisters, and make a 16 episode romantic comedy titled something like My Enemy, My Oppa or Flower Boy Flower Shop. So, what other on-screen romances would you like to see turn into something real?
The 10 hottest KDrama kisses
Korean dramas get a lot of flack for the whole peck-on-the-lips-with-eyes-wide-open kiss thing, and I'm right there with you. However, you should never underestimate the power of the Korean entertainment industry in creating some beautifully romantic (and hot) kisses. Here are my top 10, in no particular order. 1. The Cola Kiss (Lie To Me) Who could forget the reason why half of us girls wanted to be somewhat drenched in sugary beverages with Kang Ji Hwan right in front of us staring at us deeply with those eyes. No...just me? Okay. 2. The Game Over Kiss (Personal Taste) Lee Min Ho. LEE MIN HO. Okay I'll stop. But really how perfect is it when he's like "game over". Ugh, future husband, you've got big shoes to fill. 3. Kitchen Kiss (Answer Me 1997) Oh my Seo In Guk. When he throws his jacket to the ground and just walks towards Jung Eun Ji, my heart stopped, and then they produced this kiss that literally stole my heart. I may have screamed watching this....may have. 4. Pouring Rain Kiss (Playful Kiss) When Jung So Min is stopped mid-sentence because Kim Hyun Joong drops the umbrella and goes in for the kiss, leaving the two drenched in the pouring rain, my feels could not have been contained. Ask my college roommate, she wasn't having my spazzing at all. 5. Candy Kiss (IRIS) I mean really, this kiss changed a generation. Everyone and their mother wanted to move candy between their and their significant other's mouth that it may well be one of the most famous Kdrama kisses ever. 6. Tip Toe Kiss (Queen Inhyun's Man) Seriously one of the best kisses in drama history! I mean why wouldn't it be when the two had the hots for each other while filming? Oh Yoo In Na, you lucky girl! 7. "My Person" Kiss (Gu Family Book) I didn't know what to name this but when Lee Seung Gi says "Don't lay a hand on my person". UGH THE FEELS. I think that accurately explains that. 8. Bed Scene Kiss (Scent of a Woman) Bow Chicka Wow Wow. If the tango scene in this drama didn't set the scene for this kiss, I don't know what did. For those of you who haven't watched this drama, if you're in for a cry and some AMAZING romance, I suggest you do it...now. 9. The "I'm Not Leaving" Kiss (Coffee Prince) YOON EUN HYE. UGH you lucky girl. I mean if this kiss didn't make you want to just....ugh....there are no words. 10. Second Kiss (I Miss You) If this list taught me anything it's that Yoon Eun Hye is living the life I wish I could lead right now. Sigh. Good thing this list stops at 10 otherwise who knows how many more times she would end up on this list. What are your favorite K-drama kisses? New to Korean Dramas? Start with these.
New to Korean dramas? These are the shows you should watch first! Early this year I discovered the awesome and magical world of K-pop, and shortly after I found out about the equally awesome and magical world of K-dramas. Even though I've loved every single show I've watched, I had a tough time choosing my first K-drama. I spent hours scrolling through tv series and a few days adding and removing shows from my queue. To prevent anybody else from being intimidated by the seemingly endless selection of K-dramas here are the five best first K-dramas. Coffee Prince: If you love coffee and like Prince, Coffee Prince is the perfect first k-drama for you. The real reason to watch Coffee Prince is for Go Eun Chan. Something about Eun Chan's goofy, tomboy, awkwardness had me hooked from the start. Seeing her try to balance her work and personal life while trying to keep her gender a secret from Choi Han Gyul and the rest of her co-workers made this show very entertaining. There is another spot in my heart reserved for Coffee Prince because it was the first time I really loved a romantic-comedy. Vampire Prosecutor: Its a super cool crime-drama with a vampire (a very attractive Korean vampire) that fans of crime shows like CSI should definitely choose as their first k-drama. Each case was different and unpredictable but I especially loved that most questions brought up about Prosector Min Tae Yeon's vampire origins were answered when it ended. What I really love about this and every k-drama I've watched is that it ended. I didn't have to worry about this show becoming another crime show with routine cases and predictable outcomes because I knew that Prosecutor Min had important personal mysteries to solve. Boys Over Flowers: This show had a few crazy moments but its still a great first k-drama for fans of romantic-comedies. As much as I like Geum Jan Di, the reason why I kept watching this was for the F4 and more specifically Gu Jun Pyo and Yoo Ji Hoo. During the first couple episodes Ji Hoo almost immediately seems like the perfect man for Jan Di, but Jun Pyo goes from being a rich, arrogant bully to a better, more lovable person. Good Doctor: Fans of medical dramas like ER (or even the medical comedy-drama Scrubs) should definitely choose Good Doctor as their first k-drama. It's one of the most heart-warming shows I've ever watched because of Park Shi On. He's living with autistic savant disorder, but he doesn't let that get in his way of fulfilling the promise he made to his brother to become a doctor. Shi On ends up becoming a resident in training in the pediatrics ward at Sungwon University Hospital (which is filled with some of the more adorable kids) and spends the next six months learning not only how to become a better doctor but how to be a better, more mature person. IRIS: this will always have a special place in my heart because it was my first K-drama. IRIS is a great first k-drama for fans of action-thrillers like the Bourne series. The balance of this show was close to perfect. There was plenty action to hold your attention, it had just enough romance without getting too mushy, and the right amount of twists, suspense and surprises to keep you watching.
