Tragic K-Dramas (Sad K-Dramas)
[This list will have major spoilers about each drama so BEWARE!] Children of Nobody In Children of Nobody the serial killer ends up being Eunho (Hakyeon) and he gets shot and dies in the end. Throughout the drama we get to see inside Eunho's life and it's hard to not sympathize with Eunho and why he did what he did. Kill It Our main character Soohyun (Jang Kiyong) is a professional killer and his crimes catch up to him in the end when he is killed by the police in front of our female main Hyunjin (Nana.) Extracurricular Extracurricular has an ending that is up to your interpretation. There are 3 different possible endings. One in which both Jisoo (Kim Donghee) and Gyuri (Park Joohyun) are not found by the female cop meaning they both ran off, one in which only Jisoo remains meaning he decided to turn himself in and Gyuri running off leaving him behind, and lastly where the both of them remain when the female cop arrives meaning that they both decided to turn themselves in. It's up to you which ending you choose. Regardless none of those endings change the fact that Jisoo accidentally pushed Minhee (Jung Dabin) down the stairs. Minhee remains in critical condition. This also doesn't change the fact that Kitae (Nam Yoonsoo) still stabbed Jisoo several times so...tragic ending still! Extraordinary You Lots of tragic things happened throughout this drama. Haru (Rowoon) disappears and returns a different person with no memories of Danoh (Kim Hyeyoon.) Haru thinks in the previous manhwa he killed Danoh but it was really Kyung (Lee Jaewook) who was the driving force behind the sword. Kyung remembers he killed Danoh in the previous manhwa and essentially does the same in the current manhwa. Danoh dies in the shadows of the current manhwa and comes back memoryless. Haru disappears at the end of the current manhwa. The both of them return in the next manhwa and us as viewers are left with the bittersweet feeling knowing that our beloved characters are still stuck in an endless cycle of manhwas. (This drama has comedy and romance to lighten the mood a lot though.) Circle The majority of the drama is spent looking for our main lead Woojin (Yeo Jingoo) in the future world "Grand New World." His twin brother and others have been looking for him since he went missing. Little do we know that the real Woojin died years ago and was replaced by a clone. So, we never really get the satisfaction of finding Woojin in the end. There are also elements of remembering painful memories that make us question if we'd really be us without them. Angel's Last Mission: Love Our beautiful angel Kim Dan (Kim Myungsoo) gives his life for his lover Kim Yeonsoo (Shin Hyesun) to live. Kim Dan disappears. However, this tragedy is short lived because we do get a happy ending from this drama. Duel We end up losing one of the clones at the end of the drama. Sunghoon (Yang Sejong) is the evil clone and yet you can't help but love him even despite that. Sunghoon ends up risking his life to save Sungjoon (Yang Sejong) his twin/clone and others and ultimately dies because of it. It's another bittersweet ending. Goblin I honeslty don't think I need to explain why this one is tragic because I think almost everyone has seen it. Remember: War of the Son Our main lead Seo Jinwoo (Yoo Seungho) has the extraordinary ability to remember everything but that ability becomes his biggest downfall because he gets alzheimers and slowly loses his memory. By the end of the drama he doesn't recognize his lover Inah (Park Minyoung.) Signal Park Haeyoung's (Lee Jehoon) brother committed suicide around 15 years ago but Haeyoung isn't convinced it was a suicide. Haeyoung suddenly comes in the possession of a walkie talkie that allows him to speak to Detective Lee Jaehan (Jo Jinwoong) who is 15 years in the past. Due to this connection the two try to prevent Haeyoung's brother Seonwoo (Chani of SF9) from dying again. However, they fail to prevent Seonwoo from dying again but are able to prove his death was not a suicide. The Smile Has Left Your Eyes Both our main leads Mooyoung (Seo Inguk) and Jinkang (Jung Somin) die at the end of this drama. They are both shot and die next to one another moments before Jinkang's brother arrives to see them both dead. - What I'm Currently Watching: 365: Repeat the Year 6/24 Find Me in Your Memory 6/32 Mermaid Prince 3/6 Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2 1/16 Rugal 3/16 The King: Eternal Monarch 1/16 - Friend Me On MyDramaList Here: Halsyeon - Asian Drama/Movie Taglist: @KendraReeve @travelloveskin @MelissaGarza @KpopIsPleasing @LostMage @2ilVer @LinnyOk @rocklvr @VeronicaArtino @Just2BLoved @Kyla05 If you'd like to be tagged in any of my Asian drama/actor stuff please let me know!
Extracurricular - K-Drama Recommendation
Main Cast: Kim Dong Hee, Park Joo Hyun, Jung Da Bin, Nam Yoon Soo Episodes: 10 (1 Hour Episodes) - All Episodes Were Released on the 29th on Netflix Rating: 15+ Genre: Friendship, Psychological, Crime, Life, School, Youth, Drama, Mature Other Major Tags: Illegal Business, Prostitution, Hidden Identity Synopsis: "Extracurricular” is centered around three high school students who start committing crimes to earn money and the unpredictable dangers they face as a result. Tells the story of Ji Soo, a model student's path to becoming a criminal after committing an unthinkable act. A school bully Min Hee, who gets caught up in Ji Soo’s crime. Ji Soo’s dangerous partner in crime Gyu Ri. Ki Tae, Min Hee’s boyfriend and the school’s most popular guy. (Source: Soompi) My Thoughts: I just finished episode 1 and it's so nerve-wracking because Jisoo is hiding his identity as "Uncle." "Uncle" is the leader of a prostitution ring of sorts. Jisoo, is only just a high school student but lives on his own due to his parents abandoning him so therefore he makes money off this prostitution business he runs alongside an older man known so far as "Old Man." Minhee is one of the girl's in Jisoo's business and she's desperately trying to make money to buy Kitae (her boyfriend) a cell phone case for their 100th day as a couple. Only she doesn't know it's her school-mate Gyuri who is selling the case nor does she know that "Uncle" is Jisoo, the quiet boy in her class that is number 1 in her grade. Gyuri happens to find out Jisoo's secret at the end of episode 1 so I'm curious to see if she manipulates him with this newfound information. This drama is definitely not for kids as there already seems to be a bunch of sensitive issues going on throughout the drama. But regardless this drama is so far really good! I definitely recommend it! 2 New K-Drama Recommendations
Here are two drama's I've recently started that I highly recommend! The King: Eternal Monarch Main Cast: Lee Min Ho, Kim Go Eun, Woo Do Hwan, Kim Kyung Nam, Jung Eun Chae, Lee Jung Jin Episodes: 16 (1 Hour Episodes, though some are longer) - Currently Airing Rating: 15+ Genre: Romance, Historical (A more Modernized Historical), Drama, Sci-Fi, Fantasy Other Major Tags: Parallel Universes Synopsis: Yi Gon is the third Korean emperor of his generation. His citizens regard him as the perfect leader. But behind this flawless appearance, hides a deep wound. When he was eight years old, his father was murdered before his eyes following a coup. Today, instead of respecting his filial duty, he prefers to escape the palace to attend university conferences. During one of his escapades, he sees himself propelled into a parallel world where he meets Jung Tae Eul, an inspector with whom he teams up with to defeat the criminals but also close the door between their two worlds. (Source: Yumiko777.eklablog) My Thoughts: Only episode 1 has been released and I really like it so far! I mean you can't go wrong with Lee Minho, Kim Goeun, and Woo Dohwan can you? I really like dramas where one actor plays multiple roles (ex. Duel with Yang Sejong) and this drama has exactly that and two Woo Dohwan's? How can one not love this drama?! Though I'm probably biased as he's my favorite Korean Actor. My Holo Love Main Cast: Yoon Hyun Min, Go Sung Hee Episodes: 12 (1 Hour Episodes) - Completed Rating: 13+ Genre: Romance, Drama, Sci-Fi, Melodrama Other Major Tags: Prosopagnosia, Artificial Intelligence, Hologram Synopsis: “My Holo Love” is about the events that occur when a lonely woman meets the artificially intelligent “Holo.” The drama is filled with stories of heartbreaking loneliness and tear-stained love. Go Nan Do is the owner of an IT research company. As a genius inventor, he started the company, and all projects were created through his hands. However, the only people who are aware of his existence are his stepsister and the official CEO. He was a hacker in a major case 10 years ago and supposedly died while being pursued. Han So Yeon is an assistant manager at a glasses company. Whether it is working on brand marketing or the logistics of the launching party for the company’s flagship store, she shoulders on her work and stays ahead of the industry’s trends. She meticulously takes care of her clients and her work. However, when it comes to her personal life, she keeps her distance as she suffers from prosopagnosia, the inability to recognize faces. (Source: Soompi) My Thoughts: I'm two episodes in this one and I know it aired a while back (in February) but I was sort of in a slump for kdramas at that time. So, I started it and I like it! As mentioned above I am a sucker for an actor playing multiple roles and Yoon Hyunmin does just that by playing Holo and Nando. I definitely recommend checking this one out! I am curious to see if prosopagnosia plays a bigger role than it has in this drama. The last time I saw it was in The Beauty Inside and I liked that drama, it was cute! - Also is anyone watching Memorist right now? It's my current favorite drama that's airing right now. It's so good!! - See my last K-drama recommendations below: Memorist & Arthdal Chronicles Rugal & 365: Repeat the Year The World of the Married & Find Me in Your Memory - Asian Drama/Movie Taglist: @KendraReeve @travelloveskin @MelissaGarza @KpopIsPleasing @LostMage @2ilVer @LinnyOk @rocklvr @VeronicaArtino @Just2BLoved @Kyla05 If you'd like to be tagged in any of my Asian drama/actor stuff please let me know!
2 New K-Drama Recommendations
Here are two drama's I've recently started that I highly recommend! [The World of the Married] Main Cast: Kim Hee Ae, Park Hae Joon, Han So Hee Episodes: 16 (1 Hour Episodes, though some are longer) - Currently Airing Rating: 15+ (19+ in South Korea) Genre: Romance, Family, Melodrama, Drama Other Major Tags: Revenge, Infidelity, Doctor, Western Remake Synopsis: Ji Sun Woo is a family medicine doctor. She is married to Lee Tae Oh and they have a son. She seems to have everything, including a successful career and a happy family, but she is betrayed by her husband and others. Meanwhile, Lee Tae Oh dreams of becoming a famous movie director. He runs an entertainment business with the support of his wife Ji Sun Woo. Even though he loves his wife, Lee Tae Oh falls into a dangerous relationship. (Source: AsianWiki) My Thoughts: I am only 15 minutes into the first episode and so far it is good. I decided to start watching this drama because Kim Doyoung (of NCT) recommended it. I would like to note that this drama is not for a younger audience as their are mature scenes. (In fact there was a mature scene in the first 15 minutes.) I ALSO want to say that this is one of the top dramas in Korea right now. It is currently the 3rd highest rated drama in Korean cable TV history beating out POPULAR titles such as Goblin, Reply 1988, Signal, Itaewon Class, and Hotel Del Luna. [Find Me in Your Memory] Main Cast: Moon Ga Young, Kim Dong Wook Episodes: 32 (30 minute episodes) - Currently Airing Rating: 15+ Genre: Romance, Melodrama, Drama Other Major Tags: Hyperthymesia, Memory-loss, Trauma, (Tragedy could probably be added in my opinion), Comedy, (Mytsery could also be added in my opinion) Synopsis: A love story between a man who remembers every second of his life and a woman who forgot her painful past. (Source: Wikipedia) My Thoughts: I am 6 episodes in and its really good so far. Everything is happening at a slow pace right now but I think that's for a reason, it makes it more impactful. I think it's interesting to see Hyperthymesia in this drama because the last time I saw it was in Remember: War of the Son with Yoo Seung Ho and he used his extraordinary memory to solve his father's murder but it came with a price. It's interesting to see Kim Dong Wook's character live a more or less normal life compared to Yoo Seung Ho's. And each episode makes you wonder what will happen next because of the two's past. I definitely recommend checking it out!
