Michael Trevino & Nina Dobrev to Leave "Vampire Diaries" After This Season
TVD Fans, brace yourselves! This sixth season is going to be the last time you see veteran characters Elena Gilbert and Tyler Lockwood in new episodes of "The Vampire Diaries". As of this week, both actress Nina Dobrev and actor Michael Trevino have announced their exits from CW's long-running supernatural drama series. In fact, according to Nina's official Instagram account, the entire cast and crew of the show just wrapped up a 'farewell party' weekend getaway by camping in Lake Lanier, Georgia.
"I always knew I wanted Elena's story to be a six season adventure, and within those six years I got the journey of a lifetime," Nina writes. "There's more to come before we wrap this up, and I promise you'll get to hear all about my experiences over the next month as we approach the season finale ... until then I invite you to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert's life and join me as I celebrate her and prepare to say goodbye to her -- and to my work family -- as I move on to the next chapter of my life."
Series creators have hinted, however, that even though Nina may be gone for good, Michael and his character Tyler Lockwood may continue to make guest appearances as the series continues.
In a statement posted yesterday, showrunner Julie Plec announced, "Michael has been a beloved member of the Vampire Diaries family since day one .. Even though he's also going to be out in the world exploring new opportunities, we look forward to finding creative ways to make sure he and his character Tyler Lockwood always remain a part of the show."
This will undoubtedly be a big shake-up to TVD's line-up, especially as the series has been renewed for a 7th season. It will also be certainly interesting to see how such important main characters are 'written off' the show!
