10 top tourist attractions in South Africa
Are you thinking about visiting South Africa anytime soon, here is an overview of the best places to visit in South Africa tour packages? South Africa has all the amenities that travelers long for in a holiday destination: fine weather, beautiful scenery, nice beaches, modern accommodation, and gorgeous cuisine. The Southern tip of Africa also provides an adventurous selection of once-in-a-lifetime experiences, from off-road safari to white shark diving. It's hard to name another vacation destination that offers as much variety as possible. 1. Johannesburg Johannesburg, or Jo'burg, is the economic center of Africa and the most popular entry point in Southern Africa. It is also the second-largest town on the continent with more than 3 million inhabitants. Historically, it's where the money is made and fortunes are found. It's been stereotypic as a cruel, concrete jungle, plagued by crime, but it's being ferociously defended by residents as a city of opportunity and raw energy. Visits to the infamous township of Soweto are becoming increasingly popular. 2. Cape Winelands Most of South Africa's vineyards are situated about 80 km (50 miles) northeast of Cape Town in the lush Boland Basin. The river valleys flowing into the basin are ideal for growing a number of varietals, including Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir. Cape Winelands is now home to five-star restaurants, exclusive boutiques, and charming hotels. A journey to the wine country of South Africa is a journey of indulgence. 3. Addo Elephant National Park Situated in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa, the Addo Elephant National Park is one of the largest parks in the country. The Park is famous for its elephant population, which has a special brownish skin color due to the red soil. Other animals, such as ostriches, antelopes, and warthogs, can be seen among the elephants. As part of the expansion of the park, a group of lions and a group of spotted hyenas were introduced to the park in 2004. 4. Hermanus Situated on the southern coast of Africa near the Garden Route, Hermanus is famous for its shore-based whale-watching. The sheltered, shallow waters attract the southern right whales that migrate to the region every year to mate and breed. A 10 km (6 miles) long cliff-side walk with built-in telescopes and benches gives visitors plenty of opportunities to see these social animals as they raise their flukes in the sea breezes. Whale-watching boat tours are also available. 5. Durban South Africa's second-largest city, Durban, is located on the east coast of South Africa. The subtropical climate of Durban, the scenic beaches, and the proximity of Johannesburg have made the coastal town a popular holiday destination for South Africans. The English Colonial architecture that once dominated the city was enlivened by a mixture of Zulu murals, Islamic mosques, Hindu temples, and Christian churches. 6. Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is situated in the Kalahari regions of Botswana and South Africa and has emerged as the formal merger of Gemsbok National Park in Botswana Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa. The park offers magnificent and limitless red dunes with migratory herds of wild beasts, gems, springbok and eland, and predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. 7. Garden Route The Garden Route is a scenic part of the south-eastern coast of South Africa. It extends from the Bay of Mossel in the Western Cape to the Storms River in the Eastern Cape. The name comes from the diverse vegetation found here, and the numerous lagoons and lakes scattered along the coast. It includes some of the best places to visit in South Africa, including Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, and the Nature Valley. 8. The Drakensberg The Drakensberg is a mountainous area bordering South Africa and the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho and offering some of the most inspiring landscapes in the world. The name 'Drakensberg' is derived from the Dutch word, meaning 'mountain dragon,' while the Zulu's name is Quathlamba, meaning 'Battlement of spears.' The Zulu word is a more accurate representation of the sheer escarpment, but the Dutch name captures some of Drakensberg's otherworldly atmosphere. 9. Kruger National Park Covering a large variety of bush and savannah in the northern reaches of South Africa, Kruger National Park borders the countries of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Because of its dense animal population and the diversity of its flora and fauna, the park is considered a jewel of the extensive park system in South Africa. Numerous well-maintained tarred and gravel roads have made the park a popular choice for self-driving and self-catering expeditions. 10. Cape Town Cape Town is the most popular tourist destination in Africa, situated on the southwestern tip of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The metropolis has a moderate Mediterranean climate, a well-developed infrastructure, and a wonderful natural environment. The core of Cape Town is situated in a relatively small region between Table Mountain and Table Bay. The city also serves as a home base for discovering nearby attractions, including the many diverse beaches in the region as well as the rolling hills and valleys of the Winelands.
Tali Lanyard
South Park Handles Racism Brilliantly.
You might not agree with how they address it, but you have to admit it is brilliant. (for the image above, the answer is naggers, people who nag or annoy you. obviously) South Park is a show that has caused huge controversy many, many times, and with the release of their new game "Fractured But Whole" they took their dialogue about racism to an entirely new level. The comedy RPG (role player game) features various levels of difficulty, from easy to very difficult, much like most games. What's different though is the difficulty affects the color of your character's skin. During the character creation section of the game, which you can see in the video below (skip to 5:40), you select the difficulty of the game. What's interesting is the easier the difficulty, the lighter your character's skin, the harder the difficulty, the darker your character's skin. It means if you want to play The Fractured but Whole on a harder than normal difficulty, you have to play as a person of colour. Now for those of you who at this point are thinking that the game creators are racists - wait. During the process, you're told "Don't worry, this doesn't affect combat. Just every other aspect of your whole life." When asked about this feature, Ubisoft developers told the difficulty of the game affects the amount of money you receive and the way other characters speak to you throughout the course of the game - nothing else, you have the same skills as everyone. The only thing that changes is how society views you. It is, quite clearly, a social commentary on racism in modern society, and as far as video games go, a pretty effective one. There is always going to be a white guy saying that he's not priviledged because he's never experienced what its like to be prematurely judged based on skin tone - so this video game will do it for them. For any POC that feels offended by this, okay, I can see where you're coming from, but for me I think it teaches an important lesson that no matter how skilled you are, how smart you are, whatever, your will always have to fight a little bit harder when your skin is darker. Personally, I'd love it if my white friends understood that more and I think this is a rad way to get that feeling through their heads. What do you think of this? Do you agree, or think its racist as hell?
The Battle Of The Best Animated Shows Begins!!!
The nominations for this year's Primetime Emmy Awards have been officially released - and the animated TV competition is seriously intense! The Short-Form Animation category celebrates TV cartoons that fall under the 30 minute mark, and this year, the nominees are as follows: - Adventure Time "Hall of Egress" (Cartoon Network) - The Powerpuff Girls "Once Upon A Townsville" (Cartoon Network) - Robot Chicken "Robot Chicken Christmas Special: The X-Mas United" (Adult Swim) - Spongebob Squarepants "Company Picnic" (Nickelodeon) - Steven Universe "The Answer" (Cartoon Network) Personally, I really hope Steven Universe wins! Adventure Time and the rest of these shows will always have a special place in my heart, but show creator Rebecca Sugar seriously deserves ALL THE AWARDS. The Animated Program category honors the longer-running TV cartoons, and if you're someone who's watched any TV in the past 10 years, these shouldn't be surprising: - Archer "The Figgis Agency" (FX Networks) - Bob's Burgers "The Horse Rider-er" (Fox) - Phineas and Ferb "Last Day of Summer" (Disney XD) - The Simpsons "Halloween of Horror" (Fox) - South Park "You’re Not Yelping" (Comedy Central) This one is SUCH a tight race. You've got so many long-running animated TV shows against each other. However, I'm going to hope Bob's Burgers or Archer take the trophy home. (Although Halloween episodes of The Simpsons are always the best thing ever.) So who do you think is going to win? Leave your prediction in the comments below, and to talk even more about your favorite cartoons, join the US Animation community!
How Video Games Can Relieve Stress
Okay, I'm not much of a gamer. Honestly, the only games I've ever played all the way through include Fallout: New Vegas and several Mario titles, which everyone knows don't really count as "incredible, life changing" games. Anyway, I've been under a lot of stress lately, as many people are. And I discovered that playing a few hours a day, late at night when you can't sleep anyway is probably not a bad idea. One of my favorite TV shows is South Park. It's not only funny, but it engages our sense of morality and what is right and wrong in our ever-changing society. Sometimes its downright disgusting. Other times it's heartwarming and profound. Balance people. The show has balance. It never goes too far in the sentimental direction to let you forget htat it is indeed, a television show about a bunch of 4th graders who never grow up, even though most of the time they act like adults. South Park: Stick of Truth is a video game I've been wanting to get my hands on for a while. But somehow, I can't justify paying full price for anything except designer shoes. So I waited until the sequel, "South Park: The Fractured, But Whole" was announced at E3 and decided to look up the current price of the first game. 60.00 is a lot to pay for a game! Luckily, Stick of Truth was on sale at my local GameStop. So...naturally, for 11 dollars, over 60 percent lower than the original. I walked out of there with my little game, and went home, ready to play. After I waited for that pesky Steam program to download my game disk I became a funny little kid in the South Park universe. You get to choose your own character in this game. Then you're the "new kid" in town. Some people call you new kid, but Cartman decides your name is "douchebag"'re a douchebag. Blonde hair and drooping eyes just like mine. Unfortunately you can't play as a little girl so that's alright. As I walked around the South Park Universe, I thought about what it would be like to actually be there. Might be pretty amazing. Might be a great way to let off some steam. It might be a good idea to do something for the sake of doing it, and not for a result. So I played. I got my ass kicked by some funny kids dressed as elves, I got read by Cartman, I met Stan's mom and Butters became my best friend. For a moment I got frustrated and wanted to rage quit, because three little elves beat up my friend Butters and then decided I was next. After a few deep breaths I finally beat the elves and moved on to an even grander quest. It made me feel like I accomplished something. It made me feel less stressed. It's kind of like what life did to me the other day. It basically beat me up and I decided I wanted to quit. After a few deep breaths I decided that the quest at hand isn't the quest I'll end up with. I might even be instrumental in recovering the Stick of Truth from the damn elves altogether. I guess if we give up a quarter of the way through the game, we'll never know how awesome our skills will get...or how many times we can level up. My stress was gone after I played Stick of Truth. It was vulgar and a little bit frustrating, but honestly I had fun. I'm nowhere near the end of the game, and I'm nowhere near the end of my time here on earth, but somewhere down the line I'm pretty sure I'll win. I've just have to get past the damn evil elves first.
10 Times Butters From South Park Embodied Your Social Anxiety
It's not easy making friends! Why doesn't anyone understand? When you know you should leave your house, but are too afraid to go and meet new people. I don't know what's worse, hanging out alone or hanging out with lots of people. When you're just minding your business and someone asks you to hang out. Yeah! I'm okay! When you actually do go out, something always goes wrong. See! See! I told you! When you show up to hang out with your friends and you're completely overdressed even though you spent hours thinking about the right outfit. Dang it! I should have gone with jeans...this is why I can't make plans! When your friends do something totally ridiculous yet you abstain because it makes you feel sad and awkward. I don't like making fun of others, so does that make me a weirdo? When you're afraid that you'll get made fun of if you go out. I don't want to hang out because every time I do people make me the butt of their jokes! I can't help it! When you cancel plans because you want to do something you think everyone else will judge you for. I just want to stay home, make some dinner and listen to my favorite band, that's okay right? When you fear that your friends will leave you behind because you're not cool enough. I mean...I'd leave me too. When your anxiety gets the better of you and you take it out on people trying to connect with you. :/ When you ultimately realize that friendship is really important and you grow into social situations and actually have fun! I can do this! I can do this! The key to overcoming social anxiety is to just put yourself out there. All of the fear and loathing you experience largely comes from within, and much like Butters we're all up in our own heads too much. If we just let go and have fun, we can take the ride just like our friends. So get out there and make new friends. It is hard, but once you give yourself over to having fun and making an effort you'll improve. You can still like your alone time, but that doesn't mean you should alienate yourself! And you'll definitely have more fun too. Of course it is! :)
Your FAV celebrities on South Park!
Are you a fan of South Park? If you said yes to that question, I have some good news for you! South Park is the perfect show to go celebrity spotting as each episode contains at least one celebrity from Hollywood. Hundreds of celebrities have been accounted for in the show by mocking them in fake scenarios or address real life rumors. Though it's all fun and games, sometimes the celebrities get very offended. Below I have provided some of the most famous celebrities that have graced the show. Check them out! *All description excerpts were taken from Nicole Kidman She tries desperately to get Cruise to come out of the closet. (S9) Pauly D The Situation can only respond with variations of "It's just a Jersey thing" when asked why he and his fellow Jerseyans are invading Colorado. His huge ego drives him to kill Carlos Mencia, who appears on Conan, claiming credit for the joke (that Jimmy actually wrote), which Conan calls “probably the funniest most awesome joke ever.” Ellen DeGeneres has Cartman and Jimmy on her show to discuss the origin of what she calls the "perfect joke." Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman, and Jay Leno all retell the fish joke to much laughter and applause. Tom Snyder conducts a probing interview with Kanye about his love of fish sticks.
