MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/30/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Jason Heyward (St. Louis Cardinals)
It was a fly ball to deep right field. The ball was hit pretty hard so Jason Heyward did not have a chance to see and "feel" where the fence was. Well, he wasn't definitely scared of the fence, but he did hesitate a bit. Nonetheless, the Cardinals' right fielder leaped and made the catch against the fence. The Cardinals crushed the Pirates 11-1 and not only won their 100th game this season, they also clinched the NL Central division title! Congrats Cardinals fans! 4. Kole Calhoun (Los Angeles Angels)
Mike Trout is not the only outfielder that the Angels have and Kole Calhoun was going to let people know it for sure before the season was over. The ball was hit deep right in between Trout and Calhoun. Calhoun had a quick start to the ball, dived for it to rob a potential double from Vogt. The Angels however lost to the A's 8-7. 3. Carlos Gomez (Houston Astros)
This one's for @jeff4122! It is the bottom of the ninth with the tying runner at first. Franklin Gutiérrez hit one strongly to center field, but Carlos Gomez was positioned himself perfectly to catch the ball. He wasn't satisfied though. He saw pinch runner James Jones and threw a laser beam to first. And the result? Gomez made a perfect double play to end the game and lead the Astros to a 7-6 victory over the Mariners. 2. Starlin Castro (Chicago Cubs)
Starlin Castro makes the list again. We have seen some incredible plays from him all season long and he proved himself once again with this amazing play, where he dived, and threw a perfect ball to first on his knees to get the out. The Cubs hung on for the race for home advantage in the NL Wild Card game as they crushed the Cincinnati Reds, 10-3. 1. Kevin Kiermaier (Tampa Bay Rays)
And finally, our top play of the day comes from Kevin Kiermaier of the Tampa Bay Rays! Dietrich shot one deep to center field for a potential double...or even a triple! But Kiermaier followed the ball and never took his eyes off of it. He turned around, timed his jump perfectly, and caught the ball. He also ran into the fence after he made the catch, but whatever. He made it to the top of the list! The Rays beat the Marlins 6-4 in this one. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!
