Series preview: Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Let's have a look at one of the American League Division Series matchups, this one between Texas and Toronto. Toronto Blue Jays Season record: 93-69 Home record: 53-28 Away record: 40-41 Key players: David Price (SP), Josh Donaldson (3B), Jose Bautista (RF) Key injuries: None Projected starters: Unannounced [likely Price, Marcus Stroman, Marco Estrada, R.A. Dickey, Price] Here's what you need to know: The Blue Jays have the best offensive lineup in the Major Leagues. Picking up Donaldson mid-season turned them into a fringe playoff team into World Series contenders. Ace David Price, another midseason acquisition, anchors a solid pitching staff. This team is beastly and will strike fear into the whole league. Texas Rangers Season record: 88-74 Home record: 43-38 Away record: 45-36 Key players: Prince Fielder (1B), Adrian Beltre (3B), Cole Hamels (SP) Key injuries: None Projected starters: Unannounced [likely Hamels, Yovani Gallardo, Colby Lewis, Derek Holland, Price] Here's what you need to know: Texas snuck into the playoffs out of the AL West, storming back and beating out the Astros and the Angels for the top spot in the division. It's a team with quite a bit of power coming from the bats of Fielder, Beltre, and Mike Napoli, but the pitching isn't going to blow anyone away. They're a playoff team, but not much more. My prediction This series should be a walk in the park for the Blue Jays, who are the pick for most to reach the World Series out of the American League. I don't see Texas getting in their way. I'm picking Toronto in 3, a clean sweep of the Rangers, who will be exhausted having fought so hard just to get into the playoffs in the first place. Texas ace Hamels cannot out-duel Price and Toronto will dominate in the other games. Here's the full MLB playoff schedule
It's playoff time! Who's excited? I know I am - and I bet my fellow baseball fans are too! @mchlyang @christianmordi @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl !! Let's take a look at the Wild Card and NLDS schedule. It all gets started this Tuesday at 8PM ET as Houston travels to the Bronx to face the Yankees. The Yankees could have a tough time with the AL Cy Young frontrunner and 20-game winner, but it should be an intense game one way or the other. Win or go home! In the NL Wild Card, the Cubs face the Pirates in Pittsburgh at 8PM ET on Wednesday. This game also features a likely Cy Young winner, as Jake Arrieta will look to continue his masterful second half and knock out the Cubs' division rivals. After those Wild Card games are settled, we enter into the Division Series. Each series is a 5-game set, with the team with home field advantage playing host in games 1, 2, and 5. Both sets in the National league follow the same schedule of games. New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers St. Louis Cardinals vs. [winner of Pittsburgh vs. Chicago] Game 1 - Friday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 2 - Saturday [@ LA/St. Louis] Game 3 - Monday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 4 - Tuesday [@ NY/Pittsburgh or Chicago] Game 5 - Thursday [@ LA/St. Louis] There's lots of intrigue in the American League, too. Texas Rangers vs. Toronto Blue Jays Kansas City Royals vs. [winner of New York vs. Houston] Game 1 - Thursday [@Toronto/KC] Game 2 - Friday [@Toronto/KC] Game 3 - Sunday [@Texas/New York or Houston] Game 4 - Monday [@Texas/New York or Houston] Game 5 - Wednesday [@Toronto/KC] Enjoy the playoffs everyone! Be on the lookout for more cards anticipating and making projections as the first games approach!
MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/29/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Anthony Gose (Detroit Tigers) This one went deep and looked like trouble for the Detroit Tigers. But Gose was already at the fence to leap up and snag that home run from Moreland. He timed his jump perfectly and made the play even better with the nonchalant, sidearm throw after he made the catch. The Tigers fell to the Rangers 7-6. 4. Lorenzo Cain (Kansas City Royals) Another great play from a center fielder! The ball stayed high up in the air for some time and looked as if it was just going over the center field wall. Lorenzo Cain however wasn't going to give up and was not afraid of the fence. He leaped up and caught the ball to rob Thompson's home run. The Royals however fell to the White Sox 4-2. 3. Drew Stubbs (Texas Rangers) It's the top of the ninth with the Rangers leading by 1. Runners are on second and third and a big hit could turn the game around. And that is exactly what Ian Kinsler did as he hit one deep into the outfield. But Stubbs wasn't going to let this one get by. He ran full speed and caught the ball to end the game and lead the Rangers to victory. You could see he went all out as he leaped up the fence and almost went over it. Thanks to an amazing play by Stubbs, the Rangers beat the Tigers 7-6. 2. Trayce Thompson (Chicago White Sox) We all know Trayce Thompson is Superman by day, and baseball player by night. Another fantastic play by the Chicago White Sox outfielder. He reached, leaped, and flew for a couple of seconds to make that catch and end the inning. What a play! The White Sox beat the Royals with Thompson's amazing play, 4-2. 1. Martin Prado (Miami Marlins) I'm just going to say it one more time by Martin Prado is one of the best third basemen in the league. He is also one of the toughest players as well. He made it to the list once again with this amazing over-the-fence play when he chased the ball all the way into foul territory, leaped over the fence, and caught it. Derek Jeter might have left baseball, but we definitely have a lot of players to fill his shoes. The Marlins fell to the Rays 4-2. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!
