After 54 years of the U.S. embassy being closed in Cuba, it has finally raised its flag and reopened its door. Secretary of State, John Kerry made the visit to the island to raise the U.S. flag.
The flag ceremony occurred this morning in Cuba, on August 14th, 2015. Kerry described the hoisted flag as a "historic moment."
[The raising of the flag] symbolizes the restoration of diplomatic relations after 54 years," Kerry stated.
Kerry also added that Cuba's future is for Cubans to shape. The raising of the U.S. flag above the U.S. embassy certainly eases the hostile tensions that was between the U.S. and Cuba. It signifies a new, hopeful, and positive new beginning for the U.S. and Cuban relationship.
