In case you hadn't heard of & Other Stories, it's time to check them out. The swedish retailer features a more curated clothing selection at slightly higher price points than their fast-fashion sister store, H&M. However, there's another reason to love the cheery and artistically-minded brand...
& Other Stories just published the ad campaign for their new capsule collection, featuring Hari Nef and Valentijn de Hingh, both emerging transgender models.
Hari Nef recently became the first transgender model to sign with IMG Models, the model management group which represents top models in the industry, Kate Moss being one of them.
Valentijn de Hingh is slightly lesser-known in the industry, but making a name for herself, after starring in a documentary about transgender youth at a younger age, and giving an inspiring Ted Talk about growing up trans.
What makes the campaign even more special is that it spotlights not just the beauty of trans women, but the talent and creativity of trans people in the general business, too. & Other Stories wanted an all-transgender set to really celebrate the fashion industry's recent embrace of the trans community, so they picked Amos Mac as photographer, Love Bailey as stylist, and Nina Poon as makeup artist, three talented trans individuals in the business.
The photos are beautiful, showcase the amazing clothes, and do the important work of making trans faces better known and more well-respected. The fashion industry is a petri dish where ideas about beauty and art are cultivated, and hopefully spreading the importance of trans rights from the fashion industry down will make the movement more universally understood.
