John Wall says he 'probably won't make' 2016 Olympic team
Team USA is in the midst of its toughest camp in the program's history. 40 great young players have shown up to compete for 12 roster spots.
One of most talented players at the camp is All-NBA guard John Wall. In predicting whether he'll be selected to USA Basketball's 2016 team for the Rio Olympics, Wall figures he'll be one of the odd men out.

How is this possible? Talk about a PR nightmare.

"Chris Paul has already won one [Olympic gold medal]. Steph Curry had an amazing last year and just won the World Cup. Kyrie [Irving] just won the World Cup. Russell [Westbrook] will probably be on the team. They'll use him as a 2-guard," Wall told Comcast SportsNet Washington. "So, I probably won't make it."

Pretty rough to hear a player of his talent level call it like this before camp is even finished.

After the comments have leaked, I am disappointed more in Jerry Colangelo and Coach K than I am John Wall for the statement.
Based on John Wall’s quote and the response from basketball analysts across the globe, it seems as if relationships are playing heavy a role as talent when selecting the players.
While Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry are locks, John Wall was just as productive as Chris Paul and Kyrie Irving in the past couple of seasons. Physically Wall is a bigger guard than both (stands at 6’4) and can defend multiple backcourt positions. In regards to passing skills, Wall has a higher career average than Irving. It seems as if the relationship Kyrie has with Coach K from his playing days at Duke may be playing a factor in the final roster spot. I even heard talks of a spot being held for Andre Iguodala. John Wall is a far superior player than Andre, so why would he be selected over John Wall?
Coach K or someone from the program will need to speak up and explain some of the selections. I understand this is a tough process, but John Wall has surely earned a roster spot for Team USA.
