Everyone in the anime community is writing about their anime crushes! I have too many to name just one of course (what can I say, I have a big heart). If you like this, you should check out the cards by @VinMcCarthy@DanRodriguez and @Arellano1052
Here are my top 5 crushes!
Serena- Sailor Moon
I probably didn't realize at the time that I had a crush on her. I think it was a combination of wanting her and wanting to BE her. She was so brave and loyal, and she truly loved her friends. She was also flawed, clumsy and struggled with school and made mistakes all the time. But she tried her best, did what she could to fix mistakes, and always saw the best in everyone. Serena inspired me, and I loved her for it.
Hiei- YuYu Hakusho
I'm not quite sure what the appeal here was. He was a villain! Until he wasn't of course. But he was still kind of a jerk. He was very selfish, and didn't really talk to anyone unless it was to insult Kuwabara. But he really cared for his sister and I felt bad for him! He was a very lonely child.
Following that same genre of kind of jerk characters, Akito from Kodocha was my ultimate crush during my teenage years. He was so evil! But misunderstood! But he really had to learn to be better! Something about the drama really pulled me in. If only all bullies could be like him?
Motoko Kusinagi- Ghost in the Shell
She is. Such. A. Badass! I love the Major. She's completely fearless and dedicated to her work. She's extremely clever too. I absolutely admire her and I wish there were more characters like her on tv. She has a lot of complex internal conflicts about her identity and her life, but she's also incredibly self-possessed. It's really fascinating.
Mugen- Samurai Champloo
So I know this guy is a drifter and a criminal and probably hasn't showered in a while... I promise he has a lot of redeeming qualities okay?!?! Because yes, even though he resolves most of his arguments with a sword, he doesn't hurt innocent people. He doesn't use his strength and abilities to exploit people, despite the fact that lots of people try to force him to. Sure, he's usually looking out for #1, but that doesn't mean he's willing to look away when people are being cruel. Which is no small feat during the period this anime is set.
