Fushigi Yuugi Review!

SUMMARY:

The series describes the various trials of Miaka Yuki and Yui Hongo, two Middle-school students. While at the library one day, Miaka and Yui encounter a strange book known as "The Universe of the Four Gods". Reading this book transports them into the novel's universe in ancient China. Yui is transported back to the real world almost immediately, but Miaka finds herself the Priestess of Suzaku. Miaka is destined to gather the seven Celestial Warriors of the god Suzaku in order to summon Suzaku and obtain three wishes. She falls in love with the Celestial Warrior Tamahome, who eventually reciprocates and Miaka's desire to use a wish to enter the high school of her choice begins to shift towards finding a way to be with Tamahome. Yui is also drawn into the book when she tries to help Miaka to come back to the real world; becoming the Priestess of Seiryuu, working against Miaka out of jealousy over Tamahome and revenge for the humiliation and pain she had suffered when she first came to into the book's world.

Aired: 1992-1996

EPISODES: 52

My Thoughts:

I loved the story, the show was so funny and I didn't think it would be considering anime was just becoming popular around the time this show aired. I enjoyed it so much, it can make your emotions change from funny to sad or from sad to funny thanks to Tamahome's character. The characters all had great back stories and unique personalities which I adored and those qualities got me attached to each character. I loved each character and they all made me cry.
I will say one thing though this show had a lot of kiss scenes and I mean a lot, the main characters Miaka and Tamahome didn't only kiss each other but Miaka kissed atleast 5 other guys besides Tamahome which upset me and so did Tamahome! (2 guys also kissed Tamahome) The first two pics are of the same guy. There are more than this I just didn't want to put them all.

TOP 3 Favorite Characters:

1.Tamahome - He is always trying to save Miaka and I practically fell in love with his character the first time I saw him. He loves money but not for the reasons you would think but because he takes care of his family. He is so caring, good looking, kind, strong willed and loves Miaka a lot!
2. Chichiri - I liked this character right away he was so interesting and really attractive. I saw him cry only once in this show and that was near the end for someone but I'm not spoiling it for anyone. He wears a smiling face mask to hide his scarred face he describes as "hideous and ugly" but I find his actual face quite charming and handsome. I mean who doesn't love monks, am I right?!
3. Nuriko - He tricked me in the beginning because I thought he was a girl but really he was just a cross dresser, he has an interesting story as to why he cross dresses. He claims to like the empress but when he finally cuts his beautiful long hair he starts to realize he has always loved Miaka. This character makes me cry the most and if you watch you'll know why. He is just a fun, energetic person who at first disliked Miaka but I liked Nuriko because of his personality and he has super strength.
This scene was in the last episode and I was so happy I wanted to cry but by the end of the show I didn't have anymore tears left to shed. But it was a great ending and I was overjoyed!

Rating: 9/10

I'm going to try watching this now! I hadn't heard of it but you make some really compelling points in this review.
@VinMcCarthy Haha thanks I'm glad I'm getting atleast one person to go and try to watch this, I really loved it and I hope you get sucked in to the first episode like I did.
i have seen this and it's my favorite because they go into a book and only come back out until they finished the adventure.(Don't continue to read if you have not seen this anime) i think it's the same one or another one when Tamahome comes out the book and into Miaka's world and finds out he is not real because he doesn't have a shadow....
