Which Permanent Hair Dye Should You Use?
Take a walk around the hair color product aisle at Target, Walgreens, Sephora or Ulta and grab a box of at-home coloring kit. Chances are you'll see the terms: semi-permanent, demi-permanent, permanent and bleach. What do it mean? And do you know the between the types? It's okay if you're not familiar with the terms but if you are planning to dye your hair you should know what each type mean.
Semi-Permanent
Hold up to 6-10 shampoos.
Best for changing tone or darkening hair.
Not suitable for lightening hair.
Demi-Permanent
Hold up to 28 shampoos.
Best for darkening hair and covering grays.
Not suitable for lightening hair.
Permanent
Good until hair is cut/grow out.
Best for lightening, darkening or covering grays.
Not suitable for temporary or low-maintenance hair color.
Bleach/Lighteners
Result is permanent
Best for lightening, highlighting or creating a base for a different color.
Note: This guide is only for hair that is not already colored.
