Jessie J - Silver Lining
I never doubt Jessie J's singing ability but the only song I ever really liked from her is Price Tag. That changed when I watched Silver Linings Playbook. Her vocal and the beat is what I expected from Jessie.
A Fine Frenzy - Ashes and Wine
I've been listening to her since college. There is so much emotion in her singing, especially when she hits the soft notes with a whispering voice.
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I see
An old time favorite. What I like about this song is her clear vocal and the theme of the song. Suddenly I see is about rediscovery from a gray path.
"And everything around her is a silver pool of light"
"She fills up every corner like she's born in black and white"
Vertical Horizon - The Best I Ever Had (Grey Sky Morning)
This is a really old song from alternative band, Vertical Horizon. It's an emotional song, like everything else on the list. This one is about meeting, losing, denying, realizing and eventually moving on in life.
Sara Bareilles - Gravity
I've been in love with this song for the longest time. I don't know what color gravity is so it's gray to me.
Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind
This is a song about the city that never sleeps (NY). When I think of New York I think of silver lights, gray building, metals and glass. My favorite line is probably this stanza:
"One hand in the air for the big city
Street lights, big dreams, all looking pretty
No place in the world that can compare
Put your lighters in the air, everybody say
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
In New York!
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothing you can't do
Now you're in New York!
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let's hear it for New York, New York, New Yooork!"
