I am sort of obsessed with these adorable marquee letters that are EVERYWHERE! Sure, you could just as easily buy these at a craft store (or wherever), but where's the fun in that? Which is why I am bringing this cute diy to you now, so you have time to get the supplies and sit down and do this.
I am thinking about doing this for my wedding next year! YAY! <3 <3
-cardboard letters (Hobby Lobby or Michael's)
–string globe lights
Get started by cutting out one side of each of the cardboard letters with an X-Acto knife. This is pretty easy to do and should be a fairly neat process.
You'll notice in the string lights packaging, that the light bulbs will be sitting in a cardboard tray. This will serve as the perfect tool to trace perfectly sized openings onto the cardboard letters. Cut one out and use as a tracing guide.
Trace the circles on the inside of the cardboard letters where you want the lightbulbs to go. Next, use an X-Acto knife to cut a cross in the center of each circle, making sure the cuts went all the way to the edges of each circle.
Flipping over the cardboard letters to the front side, use a screwdriver to poke through and enlarge each hole.
Finally, insert the lightbulbs in each hole and screw on the backings, hiding the wires in place within the cardboard edges.
If you wanted to paint these, then you can do that too, but do it with the lightbulbs and wires completely separated from it so they don't get destroyed.
