How-To: Homemade Sour Mix

Did you really think you were going to get a fabulous cocktail by using the off-the-shelf junk with too much sugar, nothing fresh and artificial everything else?! Don't worry, I was there too, once. But I was educated BIG TIME! :)

CAN I JUST TELL YOU THAT I SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW FOR A CARD THAT MY FRIEND @Rodiziketan WROTE ABOUT 2 OR 3 WEEKS AGO AND I CAN'T FIND IT!

I was looking for the card where he was so excitable because I was going on and on about sweet and sour mix. And he was like, WAIT, FRESH, RIGHT?!...
And I'm like, no. The stuff at CVS.
There is no CVS in Slovenia, though it wouldn't matter because he went out of his way to educate me on the ways of mixology and how sour mix MUST BE FRESH. ALWAYS.
So, learn from me, MAKE IT FRESH AND ALL YOUR DRINKS WILL DANCE AND SING!

Homemade Sour Mix
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2 cups fresh lemon and lime juice (strain out the pulp)
First, combine the water and sugar in a small pot and simmer until the sugar completely dissolves. Turn down the heat and add the lemon and lime juice. Remove from heat and let the mixture cook before straining it a final time into an airtight glass container.
Keeps for a minimum of two weeks in the refrigerator. You do not have to refrigerate more syrups, but I like to when there is a high content of fresh ingredients, so it lasts a little bit longer.
After your mixture is completely cool, you can funnel it into another container and add a pour spout to the top. Throw a homemade label on the bottle too to make it legit!

sweet and sour mix, simple syrup, minty-sugar syrup, all these mixtures need to be home made. Even good bars make it their own way. I don't think you want to order a margarita and see a mixologist pouring this greeny finest call fake sweet and sour stuff. A great card, use as much freshness as you can, when cocktailing.
this is awesome! and @rodiziketan I don't do much cocktailing myself really, but If ever I do, I will do my best to use the freshest stuff available to me.

In honor of National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day, here is a deliciously fun way to get your chocolate chip cookie fix during happy hour: Chocolate Chip Cookie Shot Glasses! And in case you think I am making this holiday up, you can find it , and a ton of other national holidays that will blow your mind at National Day Calendar online. This 4 1/2 star recipe comes from All Recipes user, Nicole Faust Hunt, called "Absolutely The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies." To make the shot glasses, you will need a 'popover' pan. Otherwise, you can make these using small cupcake pans. However, the shape of the glass will not look like a shot glass. Ingredients: 1 cup butter flavored shortening (not butter) 3/4 cup white sugar 3/4 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 teaspoons Mexican vanilla extrac t2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 2 cups milk chocolate chips Chocolate candy melts (for later) Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease the pan. In a large bowl, cream together the butter flavored shortening, brown sugar and white sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla .Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, fold in the chocolate chips. Press the cookie dough into the popover pan bottom and sides. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until light brown. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. Separately, melt the chocolate candy melts in a microwave or a double boiler. Once the cookie shot glasses have cooled, spoon in the candy melts, covering the bottom and inside cookie walls. This will harden relatively quick, or you can put it in the fridge. This coating will prevent liquids from being absorbed into the cookie. I'll be the first to admit that I love Coca Cola. But it's absolutely horrible for us. The American CDC has said that 25% of Americans drink soda on a regular basis which is a hefty reason why obesity has run rampant. Sugar is the main culprit since an average can of soda can contain 3 tablespoons of sugar and 4 tablespoons if in a 12-ounce-bottle. Coke is one of the most popular soft drinks in the United States with a massive marketing empire so there will never be a day where we won't see it somewhere. But there comes a time where you need to take a moment and see what you're putting into your body. Let's take a look : All it takes is ONE Coke : First 10 Minutes : 10 teaspoon of sugar hit your system. (100% of your recommended daily intake.) You don't immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor allowing you to keep it down. In 20 Minutes : Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Your live responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat. (There's plenty of that at this particular moment.) In 40 Minutes : Caffeine absorption is complete.
