More self-help than fiction?
According to Gregory Cowles of the New York Times, Paulo Coelho's novel about young Santiago and his journey to find his treasure in Egypt should not really be found in the Fiction section of your local library. When you think about the books main idea that "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it," it is easy to see why it is one of the most popular books of our era (it has been translated into a record 67 different languages), but also why it is very much like a self help book. I wonder then if it had appeared as a self help book, would it have sold just as well? source: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/18/books/review/InsideList-t.html?_r=1&scp=6&sq=the%20alchemist%20paulo%20coelho&st=cse pic source: http://tlcbooktours.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/the-alchemist-gn.jpg
