In light of her recent hosting of the MTV VMA's this past Sunday, I was reminded how much flack Miley Cyrus gets for her bold sartorial choices, including on the red carpet, when she really has done a pretty impressive job of straddling the line between scandelous and fashion-forward. I'm rounding up her red carpet looks that were the most head-turning, but, in my opinion, totally fashionable, too.
Above: Wearing Alexandre Vauthier Haute Couture to the 2015 Grammys, making a statement but looking perfectly polished.
Wearing Dolce & Gabbana to the 2013 MTV VMA's, Miley took on a kind of naughty bellydancer vibe while looking streamlined and cool. While she showed off her killer figure, the selections of areas to showcase (upper abs, shoulders) was fashion-forward and sleek.
To the 2013 Bambi Awards in Germany, Miley shocked everyone with how covered-up her red carpet look was, wearing vintage Jean Paul Gaultier. For an international event, Miley took advantage of the freedoms of dress without her usual American naysayers, cloaking herself in a dramatic silhouette and jewels.
For the 2013 "Punk: Chaos to Couture" Met Gala, Miley wore a mesh gown by Marc Jacobs. The combination of netting and her spiky locks made this look a head-turner.
To the 2015 amfAR Inspiration Gala, Miley rocked a custom-made Moschino gown. The Dr. Martens finish off the look in a funky punk way, and the cartoonish elements kept the look from going classically romantic.
At the 2014 MTV VMA's, Miley wore a leather bandeau and matching harem pants by Alexandre Vauthier Couture, and while the tiny top showed quite a bit of skin, the fashion-favorite silhouette of the harem pant was more chic than sexy, toning down the bareness up above.
Miley has had many a fashion win and loss in her recent years of crazy looks, but at the end of the day, she just says "Imma Do My Thang" and wears what she wants, which I think deserves some respect. Do you think she's brave and edgy or too over-the-top?
