Most people have no idea how very different north Florida can be from south Florida. I certainly went into a culture shock when I moved from south Florida to north Florida for college. There were almost two different worlds. I went from a Latin, tropical city to a rural, almost "country" part of Florida.
I was used to palm trees, and everything written in Spanish. North Florida offered something much, much different from what I was used to.
Miami and Tallahassee are polar opposites.
It's mostly warm all year long. There is a very short "winter." The temperatures can dip to around 50 degrees Fahrenheit. But that doesn't even last very long. The goes teasingly linger for just a few days.
Tallahassee has more seasons. Autumn and spring delightfully comes around. The winters here can be quite brutal as heck. Although Tallahassee is still in Florida, it's very close to Georgia and Alabama. I've experience very cold weathers, for many weeks at a time. The temperatures can get into the 20s. Sometimes, you might see the temperature dip into the teens. BRR! Florida gets cold? Um, this part does!
Miami is made of people from many different backgrounds. This includes people from Latin America and the Caribbean. There are also those from all over the world who mostly reside in areas like South Beach. It's pretty diverse. And because there is a mesh of cultures and flavors, the city is known for it's variety in nightlife, food, things-to-do.
Tallahassee is primarily made up of two kinds of people: college kids and locals. Tallahassee is known as a "college town" as there are three colleges that are very close to each other. There's Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee Community College. There are students here in their twenties, and then you have families -- there really isn't an in between.
The Drinking Culture
Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa' dentro! Miami is a party city -- if you want it to be. There is so much to do and areas like South Beach, Brickell, and Downtown Miami are areas where you can get your booze on. You can never really run out of things to do, or things to drink. You have everything from chill pubs, to pinkies-up expensive bars. The drinking opportunities are endless. But there is also a balance. Miami offers so many other things to do that doesn't involve drinking.
There is a also a huge drinking culture here. But instead of 10 dollar booze, there are bars that primarily cater to the broke college kid. 3 dollar drinks? Yes please! You'll be fall-on-your-ass drunk if decide to put in ten dollars for all-you-can-drink at Bullwinkle's. Broke? No problem. Tallahassee understands, and Tallahassee provides cheap booze basically everywhere.
