Shedding pounds and keeping them off is a hard road. It's a journey, and you've got to keep that in mind. Never trust anyone who tells you about some weight loss miracle cure – it's all about lifestyle transformation – a better diet, more exercise, and the discipline to make it happen.
None of these changes happen in a day, so if you're on the weight loss journey, don't get discouraged. Stick with it! You'll see changes soon – you've just got to keep pushing through, and making choices for the better.
Here are a few quick tips to help you along your way. They might be things you've forgotten!
Drink lots of water.
Before you go out to eat, drink a full glass of water. Stay extremely hydrated. Forgo the sugar-packed drinks like fruit juice, soda, Vitamin Water, Gatorade, Starbucks Frappuccinos, etc., and choose water.
Use a smaller plate.
It'll remind you to be mindful of portion control. Research suggests that using a 9" to 10" plate, rather than a standard 12" plate, can drastically help weight loss.
Research shows that you'll have more energy, better concentration, and reduced hunger throughout the day. Pro-tip: Make sure your breakfast includes lean protein like eggs, milk, cheese, or yogurt.
Eat 1-2 cups of raw veggies before lunch and dinner.
Fill up on the good stuff so you're not craving the bad stuff. It might not taste as good as that mac n' cheese you made, but it's what your body needs to function well. Try carrot sticks, sugar snap peas, celery, lettuce, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, raw broccoli, or a salad made of all of them!
Get plenty of sleep.
7-8 hours a night at least. When you don't get enough sleep, your body's metabolism slows, and you hang on to fat. You also are more prone to indulge impulses and cravings, and make bad decisions. Nourish your body with the sleep it needs!
Loving yourself is the first step to making any positive change. You need a supporter on this journey – you. Become your biggest fan, stop body shaming yourself, and love the you you are today. That's the only way to get to the you you want to be tomorrow. :)
What are your tips to add? Got a reminder for those of us folks on the weight loss journey? I'd love to hear! :)
