Recently news dropped that Idris Elba was in the running to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. It made sense to me. Elba is an established actor from across the pond with that has played an array of unique roles with great success.
Everyone seems to like the idea.. well everyone but Anthony Horowitz. For those who don’t know who he is, Horowitz is an English novelist who is the latest successor to the late James Bond series creator Ian Fleming.
Horowitz doesn’t think Elba is the man for the job, but has a very odd reason for wanting the studio to pass on Elba.
"Idris Elba is a terrific actor," Horowitz said, "but I can think of other black actors who would do it better. [...] For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a color issue."
Too rough? I'm lost. How can Horowitz box Elba like that?
Throughout the course of his career, Elba has expanded his range as an actor Many consider him a terrific actor across the board.
While Bond and Luther are a bit different, Elba is electric throughout this series and has been the driving force behind numerous shows (cc: his role as Stringer Bell in "The Wire.) This clip above is a glimpse into his world as an actor.
In my opinion, Elba is a fine choice for the next Bond, but who would you choose to take on the role?
