On September 3, 2015 Guatemalan president, Otto Pérez Molina resigned after a warrant for his arrest was issued.
According to BBC, investigators say the scheme, dubbed La Linea, involved businesses paying bribes to government officials and custom officers in return for being allowed to evade import duties. The bribery did include other collaborators.
On Tuesday, Congress stripped Molina of his immunity of prosecution. This means that prosecutions may go forward in their case.
A warrant was issued for Molina's arrest. Talk about the corruption had been ongoing for several months now, but there has finally been a lift on Molina's immunity for prosecution.
