To All K-Poppers ❤️

Hello. ^^ 안녕하세요. ^^ So, today was my first day of school. (I'm a Junior! Yay!) It went pretty well. ^^
In English class, we had to do this activity where we choose a shape that best describes us. The choices were: • Circle • Triangle • Square • Squiggly line
Here is what I wrote: "The shape that best describes me is a squiggly line because I am very weird and outgoing. I have a wide variety of interests. I like to listen to K-Pop and J-Pop, I like to watch Anime, I love Korean/Japanese fashion, and I love Asian culture."
Of course, they asked, "What's K-Pop/J-Pop?" I simply told them, "Korean music and Japanese music."
I thought everyone was going to be shocked and make a big deal of it, but to my surprise, they said, "That's pretty cool." I told them about how I am learning Japanese and Korean, how I plan on studying abroad in Japan or South Korea.
I know that there are K-Pop fans who keep their interests to themselves.
They're afraid of what other people will think of them.
My advice to you is, don't care about what other people think. Just be YOU!
It's okay to be different. It's okay to be unique. You never know, many other people might have the same interests as you do.
I've hid my interest in K-Pop for years. Since I was in 7th grade actually.
I thought people would bully me. I thought my friends wouldn't want to be my friends anymore.
What I did today, was huge for me. I actually built up enough courage to let everyone know the REAL me.
So always be yourself.
Make new friends.
Live freely.
Don't ever be afraid to show people the real you.
You never know how many cool people you can meet.
Be you! ❤️❤️❤️

I'm a junior too!!! My first English assignment was a letter of self introduction!!! Of course I wrote about kpop!!! 😄😄😄
Yay I'm a junior too!~ Then also today I'll be telling my English 11 class that I like K-Pop/J-Pop. I'm not worried though because most people already know me to like manga and anime. It's my fourth day of school and I'm convinced that most of the K-Poppers/J-poppers are hiding themselves. I don't see any and I wore my BIGBANG MADE jacket and no one. I won't give up though. I'll find someone. Then sadly my hyung who introduced me to K-Pop may not be here anymore but I'll continue on.
wow it's pretty cool that u have been hiding your Korean and japenese stuff secret since 7th grade and I am in 7th grade and I just started liking it and I am still afraid of telling a lot of people but I told my friends they don't care and when I told them I found out that one of my closest friends likes it too but I mean I am afraid to just go off and tell people cause I don't want people to think I'm weird expescially people I like aka boys but it will come out soon. I also wanna go to South Korea one day and study there I think it will be a amazing experience
Well said and good for you! People will either like you or not... its a fact that not everyone will... the important people will... its better to be disliked for who you are than liked for who you pretend to be...always be true to yourself because if you can't be how will you ever expect anyone else to be...always remember that the first 2 syllables of beautiful is "be you"
awesome! that was kind of my friend when i first met her. she didnt talk much but when she showed my other friend kpop they started talking nonstop and then she showed me kpop in sixth grade and now in 7th i still love it from that day

Why Don't Idol Groups Work In America?
In Japan and Korea, idols are a huge deal. The fandoms surrounding idols and idol groups are massive, with a ton of merch, lingo, events, etc surrounding the entertainers. So why isn't that happening in America? The UK tried it out with One Direction and we have a few girl groups like Fifth Harmony and Little Mix, but for the most part the classic pop group ensemble faded away in the early 2000s. Here are a few reasons why it might not work: I'm not saying either opinion is correct - just stating how the general public views celebrities in America vs Korea/Japan. I'm not an expert on either so please share your opinions as well! 1. The Concept of Being An Idol Sure, celebrities in the US know that they are role models, but do they really take this as their job?! In Japan and Korea, a single slip up can mean public humiliation (such as when an AKB48 member had a boyfriend - she had to shave her head as an apology) while in America celebrities insist on their personal rights to do whatever they want. In their opinion, just because you're a celebrity doesn't mean you aren't allowed a personal life. They should be able to be in the lime light but also have a lot of personal life that shouldn't be judged by the public, In Japan/Korea, every aspect of an entertainers life is analyzed and people know that is just part of the job. You must be a model citizen at all times and any bad behaviour (whether its on or off camera) is bad for your company, your career, and your fans. 2. Company Loyalty In America, we know the big companies like Warner, Sony, etc, but we rarely pay attention to what label each artist is on. And even if they're on the same label they don't really work together so its hard for fans to be loyal to one company. The closest I think we can get to that is waaay back with Motown Records or more recently the bands that came out on Fueled By Ramen. Smaller hip hop labels still keep this group style too! We could actually see the connection the artists had on those labels and could support the label as well as the artists. Now in Korea, we all know that companies are a big deal. YG Family, JYP, Cube, SM, etc. They do things together like concerts, Christmas songs, etc. We are able to anticipate the company's new project or collaboration. It's easier for the fans to get hyped over multiple groups at once. 3. Pre-Packaged In America, bands are usually put together by the band members. Whether they start in a garage or they put up flyers to find members, it is the band that forms first, then the label that signs them. In Korea and Japan however, we have a TON of trainees all hoping to be perfectly placed in a group. Think of the show Produce! Perfect example of prepackaging :) One Direction is an example of that happening where the boys were somewhat put together by a label, but musical and personality differences got in the way :/ 4. Training Idols train a LOT. Sure, in America entertainers practice, train, get vocal lessons, learn new instruments, get prepped for interviews etc but they are not forced to practice for 12 hours a day. Living in dorms without cell phones or internet, being forced to learn languages, dances, public speaking, etc - its totally normal in the idol world. Because of this, idols should be pretty prepared for anything. I'm not so sure American entertainers would be up for this style of training. Can you think of other reasons why the "idol" style of the music industry doesn't work in America?
Remembering Jonghyun's Incredible Kindness
I can't offer any new words about this tragedy, other than Jonghyun had one of the purest and most beautiful souls we've been blessed with in our lifetime. I'd like to celebrate three acts of kindness he showed to his fans, which doesnt even represent a fraction of what he's done for them. He was an angel, a prince, and a gift. 1. Sharing a story of a young man suffering because of Korean society's standards as well as his sexuality. “I support you who are rightly exclaiming that difference is not wrong. I do not think you need comfort or concern. You are that strong. I hope health and warm is with you for this end of the year.” - Jonghyun 2. Shows up at a fan's workplace after learning she worked about a million jobs, and helped her finish her shift and encouraged her to follow her dreams of being a radio producer. 3. When a fan starts to cry at a fan sign, he writes a note and gives it to his manager asking him to deliver it to the fan and... “I briefly made contact with Jjong and he mouthed out the words ‘Don’t cry’..even when I was getting Jinki (Onew)’s autograph, Jjong poked me in the arm when he had a break from his line and told me not to cry..I was really having a mental breakdown so I couldn’t tell SHINee all I wanted to say that I planned and went back to my seat to wait, then Jjong wrote something and a staff member brought the note over for him..” I'm sure you understand that I don't have many words and all I can say is, thank you Jonghyun.
