It's not every day that you wear blue lipstick, but you should.
While doing my daily research, I stumbled upon a blog post [see here], that made me think deeply about self expression. The blogger posted about her experience of wearing bright, unconventional lipsticks for a week and how it wasn't her typical daily routine -- but in turn, she actually ended up loving the lipsticks. And to think she almost didn't go through with it because it wasn't what she would "normally" do, but what's normal anyway?
Just because it's not the norm, doesn't mean that you can't start a trend. Many people are too scared to try something new for the fear of what others may think. You know what I have to say about that? Who really cares what others think. Like my favorite Youtuber always says, "Be Shameless. Be You." At the end of the day, the opinions of others might weigh heavy on you, but it shouldn't because you are you. If you want to wear black or blue lipstick every day of the week, go for it. Nobody is holding you back. Life is all about freedom of expression and what better way to express yourself than through your personal sense of style?
If Rihanna and Lady Gaga can express themselves through their iconic and flashy taste in clothing, makeup and hairstyles -- so can you. It takes a strong person to be bold and stand out among a crowd of onlookers. If people want to stare, let them. You're giving them something to talk about and that just means at the end of the day, you made a statement.
In celebration of yet another week of #NYFW, I challenge you to be bold. Whether that means wearing a bright color lipstick for one full week or wearing those heels you bought last season, but are too afraid to wear out.
Take a risk. Take a chance. You might just like it and if you don't, guess what?
At least you can say you tried.
