MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/14/15)

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day!

5. Mariners Fan (Seattle Mariners)

We finally get one from the crowd! He was under it, he reached out, and made the play. The bow was a must. Good thing he brought his glove to the game! The Mariners crushed the Angels 10-1.

4. Jedd Gyorko (San Diego Padres)

Jedd Gyorko spins and makes the play to make a 1-2-3 inning for James Shields! A strong outing from Shields and an explosive Padres offense leads them to victory over the Diamondbacks, 10-3. Shields also collects his 12th win of the season.

3. Christian Yelich (Miami Marlins)

Yelich makes the catch and throws a cannon to second to get Juan Lagares out at second. The 2014 Gold Glover gets another 2014 Gold Glover out with his incredible arm. Too bad the Marlins faced the hottest team in the MLB right now; the Marlins lost 4-3 to the Mets.

2. Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals)

The number one candidate for the NL MVP award saves the game with runners on first and second. The ball was going in fair territory but Harper reaches out, slides and makes the catch! Harper's catch leads Washington to victory as they top the Phillies 8-7 in extras.

1. Mikie Mahtook (Tampa Bay Rays)

Mahtook jumps up and makes the catch, but it doesn't stop there. Mahtook comes down and throws one to second to get Gardner out and make it into a double play. This amazing play also extended Erasmo Ramirez's no-hitter through the seventh inning (He lost the no-hitter in the top of the eighth). The Yankees topped the Rays 4-1 with a three-run homer from Slade Heathcott.
Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!

@mchlyang sounds like something i would name a band hahaha... The Jedd Gyorko Project
@jeff4122 I totally agree! Gyorko...It not only sounds cool but it also looks cool. I feel like we should put a "The" in front of his name and call him The Jedd Gyorko!
Mahtook takes the cake for me, but I love Gyorko's play just because I love his name... Jedd Gyorko... it's one of the best names in the league for sure hahaha
And yes please tag me! :)
Love that fan reaction! Especially when there aren't many people at games that's pretty impressive! hahaha. Also...that throw by Mahtook is legendary. Like, come on, that's an outfielder!

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Anthony Gose (Detroit Tigers) This one went deep and looked like trouble for the Detroit Tigers. But Gose was already at the fence to leap up and snag that home run from Moreland. He timed his jump perfectly and made the play even better with the nonchalant, sidearm throw after he made the catch. The Tigers fell to the Rangers 7-6. 4. Lorenzo Cain (Kansas City Royals) Another great play from a center fielder! The ball stayed high up in the air for some time and looked as if it was just going over the center field wall. Lorenzo Cain however wasn't going to give up and was not afraid of the fence. He leaped up and caught the ball to rob Thompson's home run. The Royals however fell to the White Sox 4-2. 3. Drew Stubbs (Texas Rangers) It's the top of the ninth with the Rangers leading by 1. Runners are on second and third and a big hit could turn the game around. And that is exactly what Ian Kinsler did as he hit one deep into the outfield. But Stubbs wasn't going to let this one get by. He ran full speed and caught the ball to end the game and lead the Rangers to victory. You could see he went all out as he leaped up the fence and almost went over it. Thanks to an amazing play by Stubbs, the Rangers beat the Tigers 7-6. 2. Trayce Thompson (Chicago White Sox) We all know Trayce Thompson is Superman by day, and baseball player by night. Another fantastic play by the Chicago White Sox outfielder. He reached, leaped, and flew for a couple of seconds to make that catch and end the inning. What a play! The White Sox beat the Royals with Thompson's amazing play, 4-2. 1. Martin Prado (Miami Marlins) I'm just going to say it one more time by Martin Prado is one of the best third basemen in the league. He is also one of the toughest players as well. He made it to the list once again with this amazing over-the-fence play when he chased the ball all the way into foul territory, leaped over the fence, and caught it. Derek Jeter might have left baseball, but we definitely have a lot of players to fill his shoes. The Marlins fell to the Rays 4-2. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/21/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Asdrubal Cabrera (Tampa Bay Rays) Big Papi lines one to second but is caught by Asdrubal Cabrera! Pedroia was already running towards third and Cabrera wasn't going to let him off the hook just yet. He races to second base and makes it into a double play. The leaping catch alone was great, but him beating Pedroia to the bag made the play so much better. Despite the unassisted double play, the Rays fall to the Red Sox 8-7. 4. Aaron Hill (Arizona Diamondbacks) It was a ground ball hit by Crawford but Aaron Hill dived for it and managed to stop it. He stayed down on the ball and even though he didn't catch it perfectly, he picked up the ball on his knees and threw it in time to get Crawford out at first and end the inning. The Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers 8-4. 3. Kole Calhoun (Los Angeles Angels) Another beautiful assist from the outfield. It was a base hit all right but what was the third base coach thinking when he waved in Altuve? I mean Altuve's pretty fast all right, but you don't want to underestimate Kole Calhoun's arm. Calhoun guns down Altuve from right field and it was right on the money. The Angels however fall to the Astros, 6-3. 2. Kris Bryant (Chicago Cubs) And our stud from Chicago makes it in the Top 5 Plays of the Day. (Oh, just in case you haven't checked out my "Cubs Star Kris Bryant Surprises Fans" card, you def should!) Anyways, this was one of the strangest plays ever. The wild pitch bounces off the screen and goes all the way to third and Bryant caught it. Scooter Gennett thinks he can advance all the way to first but Bryant's not going to let him have it and dives to third to get him out. The Brewers challenged the play, but nope, Bryant definitely got him out. The Cubs beat the Brewers 9-5. 1. David Price (Toronto Blue Jays) Our number one play of the day comes from David Price! The ball was lined right to the mound, but somehow David Price managed to catch the ball! It was going right towards his face and I don't even know how Price reacted to that. One thing's for sure. I am so glad he caught that. If he hadn't....well, I don't even want to think about it. The Blue Jays come on top of the Yankees 4-2 with an exceptional pitching performance by none other than David Price. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! MLB Top Plays of the Day (10/01/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Adam Warren (New York Yankees) Clayton Kershaw is not the only one who can make the behind-the-back catches! Adam Warren made this amazing play and led the Yankees to clinch a spot in the postseason. They beat their archrival, the Boston Red Sox 4-1 and earned their spot in the American League Wild Card spot. Congrats Yankees fans! 4. Mike Trout (Los Angeles Angels) Well, he wasn't going to let Kole Calhoun be the only player to make the list. He is one of the most fearless baseball players in the league. He'll do anything it takes to lead his team to victory and that is exactly what he did last night. He was going back fearlessly and caught that ball despite running into the wall, full-speed. Even though he did not get the runner on second, he saved a potential RBI double. The Angels fell to the Rangers 5-3. 3. Yadiel Rivera (Milwaukee Brewers) It was a grounder in the hole, but Yadiel Rivera caught the ball back hand perfectly. It didn't stop there. He threw a laser beam and it was delivered perfectly two the first baseman to get the out. The Brewers however fell to the Padres 3-1. 2. Josh Hamilton (Texas Rangers) Josh Hamilton has been through a lot but there is no doubt that he is one of the most talented ballplayers out there. He proved that once again against the Angels when Victorino sent one way back to left field. He went backwards, slid, and caught that ball right in front of the fence! The runner on third scored, but Hamilton's catch was just unbelievable. The Rangers beat the Angels 5-3 and dropped their magic number to one for the AL West division title. 1. Kevin Kiermaier (Tampa Bay Rays) Kevin Kiermaier makes the number one play of the day once again! Ichiro gets a base hit, but we know Kiermaier has one of the best arms in the league. He threw one down perfectly to home and stopped a potential tying run. That was his 15th assist of the season. The Rays beat the Marlins 4-1. When you can't decide on your favorite player...
Giancarlo Stanton and Ichiro Suzuki are both great baseball players. But one thing is for sure! They both play very different types of baseball. Stanton is known for crushing baseballs out of the park... And Ichiro is known for making contact with the ball and his speed! But one thing's for certain. These two are incredible baseball players. So what do you do when you can't decide on your favorite player? THIS. But to be honest...I'm not sure if I'm digging the look. The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list? MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/10/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Eugenio Suarez (Cincinnati Reds) That was a pretty deep slide into second base but Suarez made that play look so easy! Brandon Phillips also showed some solid defense last night. The Reds' keystone combination were just on a roll last night defensively. The Reds crushed the Cardinals 11-0. 4. Wilmer Flores (New York Mets) What a dive from Flores! That catch helped the Mets' starting pitcher Bartolo Colon extend his consecutive scoreless innings. Unfortunately, the streak stopped at 31 but the Mets beat the Braves 7-2 and Colon collected his 14th win of the season. 3. Martin Maldonado (Milwaukee Brewers) I don't know what's up with the Pirates when they meet the Brewers and what was Cervelli doing? He isn't even that fast! Anyways, great throw by Maldonado and the Brewers beat the Pirates 6-4. The Pirates have now lost seven consecutive games against the Brewers. 2. Yangervis Solarte (San Diego Padres) I was a bit surprised when I heard the Yankees traded Solarte to the Padres. He's been doing pretty well with the Padres considering the fact he made his Major League debut last year. But yes...I love these barehand catches by third basemen. Despite Solarte's barehand and cannon to first, the Padres fell to the Rockies 4-3. 1. Charlie Blackmon (Colorado Rockies) The number one play of the day today and another one from the Rockies - Padres matchup. Charlie Blackmon simply snagged that homer from Brett Wallace who came in to pinch hit in the bottom of the ninth. What a clutch performance by Blackmon and this catch I feel like was the deciding factor in the Rockies' victory over the Padres! Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!
