MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/16/15)

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day!

5. Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians)

What a stop by Francisco Lindor! And the throw was perfectly timed and he even gave it a couple of bounces to make sure it arrived safely at first. It did hit the grass but he grabbed it very nicely and the Indians beat the Royals 5-1.

4. Mike Aviles (Cleveland Indians)

Now two top plays from a third basemen two nights in a row! This time, Mike Aviles showed what it takes to defend a hot corner. He dived for it, caught it, and threw sidearm from his knees to get the out! That's what you call a Gold Glove caliber play. Again, the Tribes beat the Royals 5-1.

3. Ryan Goins (Toronto Blue Jays)

When the ball passed Josh Donaldson, we all thought it was going to split through the infielders and become a base hit. Ryan Goins however wasn't going to let it get passed by him. This play reminded me of Jeter for a sec. Well, the Blue Jays crushed the Atlanta Braves 9-1.

2. Starling Marte (Pittsburgh Pirates)

You may see this kind of play from an infielder from time to time, but you certainly don't see this from an outfielder that often. He got on that ball nicely, used the wall to gather himself, and he fired that ball to second to get Tommy La Stella out at second. Now last night was the 14th annual Roberto Clemente Day, and Marte pulled off a Clemente-esque play right there. The Pirates however fell to the Cubs 3-2.

1. Starlin Castro (Chicago Cubs)

Last night's number one play goes to Starlin Castro! The potential winning run was on first but Castro wasn't going to let their division rival take this one. Castro caught that ball to make an amazing 4-6-3 double play in the bottom of the ninth. Castro's incredible play led the game to extras and the Cubs eventually won 3-2.

Gotta go with Castro, big time play right there!
I'm giving it to Aviles, great play on the hot corner!
i thought 3rd one is best
@christianmordi Haha I knew you would choose that play! Cubs fans....smh.
@jeff4122 That sidearm throw on his knees was incredible. He made it look so easy...if I threw like that, I probably won't even be able to make it to first base!

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Salvador Perez (Kansas City Royals) Was Salvador Perez a shortstop? You definitely don't see that too often with catchers! Perez calls off Yordano Ventura, catches the ball barehand, and guns one down first to get the out. What a play by Salvador Perez, the catcher for the Kansas City Royals! Yes, a catcher! Kansas beat Cleveland 8-4. 4. Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles) Runners on first and second. But if you have Adam Jones in center, he is not going to let you score two runs when a ball's hit towards him. He makes an amazing catch, rolls over, and saves two runs! Oh right. He also ended that inning with his catch. The Orioles beat the Rays 4-3, thanks to Jones's amazing catch. 3. Torii Hunter (Minnesota Twins) Who said Torri Hunter is the old guy on the Twins? He still has some game left in him. He sprints for the ball, slides beautifully onto the warning track, and makes the catch. What a play by the forty year old veteran outfielder! The Twins however fall to the Angels 11-8. 2. Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians) He makes the list again, this time with a second place-caliber play! It's hit sharply to short, but Francisco Lindor is there to make the diving, backhanded catch and makes the throw to first. Frankie Lindor with the run saving play, but unfortunately, the Indians fall to the Royals 8-4. 1. Carlos Correa (Houston Astros) There comes the shift for Prince Fielder. Correa is on the right side of second base as he gets ready to grab that grounder from Fielder. However, pitcher Lance McCullers reaches for the ball, but it bounces off McCullers's glove. Correa wasn't expecting it but reacts quickly to catch the ball on his knees, and makes a perfect throw to first to get Fielder out at first. The Astros however falls to division rival Rangers 8-2. NFL Week 12 Pick 'Em
With Week 12 upon us, it's time for teams to really start making their push toward the playoffs. Let's take a look at some of the biggest games around the league. Steelers vs. Seahawks Seattle will look to ride rookie RB Thomas Rawls as they hope to solidify their playoff chances. They're currently behind the Cardinals for the NFC West division lead but are in prime position to take one of the two Wild Card spots in the NFC, with the rest of the conference pretty weak overall. The Steelers are in a similar position, as they are leading the AFC Wild Card charge but trail the Bengals for the lead in the AFC North. Prediction: The Seahawks take this one at home. They're too tough to beat in Seattle. 20-16, Seahawks. Patriots vs. Broncos It'll be another start for QB Brock Osweiler in place of the injured (and ineffective) Peyton Manning in what is always one of the most exciting games of the year between the Pats and the Broncos. The Patriots are looking to improve on their 10-0 record and join the Panthers as the other undefeated team this late in the season. Prediction: Even though the game is in Denver, the Patriots are too good. The Broncos will put up a good fight thanks to their dominant defense, but it won't be enough. Patriots 17, Broncos 10. Vikings vs. Falcons This is the game of the week for me, with the Vikings looking to take advantage of division rival's loss, as the Packers fell to the Bears on Thanksgiving. With a win, Minnesota will take a lead in the NFC North. The Falcons started hot but have lost a few games in a row. They'll be hoping to get back on track to remain in control of a Wild Card spot. The division is out of the question with the undefeated Panthers set to take the cake, but Atlanta are still looking good, provided they can put together a few more wins. Prediction: This will be a really tight game and it's tough to call, but I'm giving it to the home team in a shootout. Atlanta 31, Minnesota 27. Enjoy the games, everyone!
MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/22/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Andres Blanco (Philadelphia Phillies) The ball was grounded towards second, but Andres Blanco dives and smothers it. He throws to first on his knees and gets the batter out to end the inning. The way he spun on the ground was so smooth and elegant, he made it look easy. The Phillies also beat the Marlins 6-2. 4. Billy Burns (Oakland A’s) Shin Soo Choo lines the ball hard to center field. But Burns already took off as soon as the ball made contact and he is there to make the diving catch. Choo is robbed a hit as Burns makes a break and gets there before the ball hits the ground. Despite Burns's amazing play, the A's fall to the Rangers 8-6. 3. Nick Ahmed (Arizona Diamondbacks) Where are all these amazing shortstops coming from? Nick Ahmed dives for the ball and manages to stop it before it gets to the outfield. He doesn't even get up fully and manages to throw perfectly to the second baseman sideways! This is truly an amazing play and with the combination of a great defense and a hot offense, the Diamondbacks crush the Dodgers 8-0. 2. Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians) Francisco Lindor makes the list once again. He seems to pull something crazy every time he plays. This time, even the commentators thought for sure it was going to be a hit. But no, Lindor makes the diving backhand catch, gets up, and throws a laser beam to first to get the batter out. Cleveland however falls to Minnesota 3-1. 1. Jose Bautista (Toronto Blue Jays) Today's number one play goes to Jose Bautista. It was a fly ball to right and Chris Young was ready to tag home. But you have to understand good old Joey Bats is not simply a monster on offense. He may have a sore shoulder but this guy still has one of the best arms in the league. He makes the throw in time to get Young out. And do you know what's even more impressive? That was his second assist of the night. I know @jeff4122 is going to like this very much. Joe Maddon wins Manager of the Year
Not that this is terribly surprising, but it's newsworthy all the same: Joe Maddon is the National League's Manager of the Year. The Cubs went 97-65 this season, a year after going just 73-89. They made the playoffs via the Wild Card and progressed to the NLCS, where they were eventually swept by the Mets in four games. Maddon's presence with the team certainly went a long, long way to turning things around for one of the league's most troubled franchises. It's not all about Maddon, though - this Cubs team was nothing like the 2014 edition. The emergence of young future (and even present) superstars like Kris Bryant and Kyle Schwarber turned this team on its head. The youngsters, combined with amazing seasons by Anthony Rizzo and pitcher Jake Arrieta made the Cubs one of the most feared teams in the National League. Many had them picked to win the World Series before they ran into the piping-hot Mets in the NLCS. They met an unstoppable force and couldn't pull it off, but had a great season nonetheless. In a somewhat surprising move, the Mets' Terry Collins finished third in Manager of the Year voting behind Maddon and Mike Matheny of the Cardinals. Sure, the Cardinals finished with the best record in baseball, but if you ask me, what Collins did as manager was more impressive than Matheny's work. The Mets' head honcho took a minor league roster and guided them through a brutal first half of the season before picking up some huge mid-season acquisitions and turning on the style late in the season, reaching the World Series before falling to the Royals. Sure, none of this actually matters, and I think most people pretty much agreed that Maddon would win Manager of the Year. Many probably picked Collins to finish second ahead of Matheny, but that's just making an argument for no reason. So, there we have it baseball fans: Maddon, Matheny, Collins. Is this the right order? Would you have given the award to someone else? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @DerekGumtow @Straightshooter @Kirooken @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @ChristopherKenn @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @addri @GinnaL13 @VeronicaArtino @TomasVasquez

The 5 Strangest Superstition in Sports!
Hello sports fans! It's Friday the 13th! Here are some of the strangest superstitions in sports! Michael Jordan Michael always wore his UNC shorts under his NBA shorts. Thus, he wore longer shorts than his fellow players at that time. In the end however, his fellow players followed suit after the legend. Serena Williams Serena Williams is known for not changing socks once during a tournament. It sucks to wear a pair of socks for more than a day...imagine how it would feel to wear the same socks for an entire tournament! I guess Serena doesn't mind it considering the number of tournaments she has won. Brian Ulracher Brian Ulracher ate two chocolate chip cookies before every game. Maybe that was the secret to his muscular body. I think it'd be fair to call him the "Cookie Monster". Caron Butler Caron Butler was known to be an avid fan of Mountain Dew. He loved the drink so much that he drank before and during every game. During his UNC days, he asked his wife to pick him a 2-L bottle of the green stuff, and drank half of it before the game, and the rest during half-time. In 2007, the Wizards and NBA banned him from drinking it during games so he eventually quit the whole thing in 2009. Moises Alou This one has to be the most f*cked up one out of all of them. Moises Alou used to pee on his own hands to harden them! Should we see that as commitment to the game of baseball or just some pretty weird ass shit? Oh and by the way, don't try to harden your hands by peeing on them ladies and gentlemen, because doctors have confirmed that peeing on your hand doesn't harden them. It actually softens them. @jeff4122 @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @InPlainSight @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @salahabdalla @Moose892 @BrookieyElba @SamuelRodriguez @ValerieAlissaPa @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Jovi @Shippudenguy21 @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @Link4TW @ChriSingularis @sanazsanaz @WilliamBrown @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @TravisBeck @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @gatorchick96 @MatthewBoughton @MarcusJiles @BrandonMcNeil @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @manbungo2000 @DerekGumtow @havic @Straightshooter @PhilAnthony @Kirooken @yaakattackk @RodneyYoung @DreJones @JonathanKerns @bnzattoni @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @smothgreen @afxs @johnnolastname @ChristopherKenn @ChasePage @coreywriley91@MikeWolf @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @BrunoDutch @SherzTYC @krishntejanand @addri @ChrisStephens What was your favorite one from the list? Mets make splash with 2 moves in 1 day
What a day for the Mets! When the Cubs scooped up Ben Zobrist, one of the hottest free agents in the league right from under the Mets' noses, the Mets needed a backup plan. There was talk that they might not have one, but they proved everyone wrong. They made a quick move for Pirates 2B Neil Walker, trading SP Jon Niese for him straight up. Let me be clear: this was a great move. The Mets, with four healthy young arms plus Zach Wheeler on the way back from injury and guys like Logan Verrett and Rafael Montero ready to contribute until Wheeler comes back, had no need for Niese. He was making too much money to be what was essentially their 6th (or even 7th) starter. But the Mets did need a second baseman, and in Walker they got just that. He may not be a superstar, but he is very solid defensively and is better at the plate than Wilmer Flores or youngster Dilson Herrera, who will now have more time to develop in the minors instead of being thrown into a starting role before he's ready. The Mets also scooped up SS Asdrubal Cabrera in the same day, signing the player to a 2-year deal. This one also makes sense, as the 2 shortstops on the Mets' roster are injured and racing to be back in time for Spring Training. In any case, Cabrera might be better than both Tejada and Flores (the guys who split time at SS last season) through and through. Like Walker, he's no superstar, but this was a very good move for a team that needed some depth. Sure, I'm sad to see Niese go after all that he's done for this team over the past couple of years. He's been through thick and thin with a team that struggled so much and he will be remembered as a tough Met and a good man. But business is business, and the Mets got two players that could start everyday for them on the cheap in exchange for one player that they did not need. When you look at it like that - and I think you have to - this was a great day for the Mets. Do you like the moves? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke @DerekGumtow @Straightshooter @Kirooken @TravisManning @GalacticChakra @ChristopherKenn @MrTenThirty @JasonNilsson @addri @GinnaL13 @VeronicaArtino @TomasVasquez @GingerMJones @starli @strawhatblakley @FernandaMontalv @jgallegos222 @DennieySnyder @PaulFotiadis
Blue Jays fight one back
Toronto needed one, and they got it. After dropping Games 1 and 2 to the Royals in Kansas City, the Blue Jays absolutely had to have Game 3 in order to save their season. Going down 3-0 would not have boded well for their chances. Early in the game, it looked like Kansas City was going to continue their hot streak - they scored in the top of the first to make it 1-0. However, the Blue Jays jumped on Johnny Cueto, scoring 3 runs in the second and putting up a six spot in the 3rd. Cueto has been all over the place recently. After being traded from the Reds to the Royals at the deadline in the summer, when he was one of the best pitchers in the league, the long-haired monster has struggled mightily since coming to Kansas City. He had a few good starts in earlier in the playoffs, but was rocked in Monday's game, putting up a line of 2.0 innings pitched, walking 4 and allowing 6 hits and 8 runs. Das not good. Blue Jays starter Marcus Strohman wasn't great - he allowed 11 hits over 6.1 innings - but he limited the damage to 4 runs allowed, which was enough on a night that the Blue Jays really had the bats going. So now the series is 2-1, still in favor of the Royals, with two more games in Toronto before the series heads back to Kansas City for Game 6 and Game 7. It's getting tighter, and tonight's game will go a long way to either watching Kansas City start to wrap things up or seeing Toronto level the thing at 2. Tonight, it's knuckeballer R.A. Dickey for Toronto vs. Chris Young for the Royals. I'm happy to see Dickey, an ex-Met, get a really key start in the playoffs. I'm rooting for the Royals in this series, but think Toronto gets the win tonight behind the veteran starter. What do you think? Will KC take a 3-1 lead tonight or can Toronto continue to fight? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke
