A simple slow cooker meal the family should love (if they enjoy beef and potatoes)
You will need a roast (cut of choice) and your favorite steak seasoning. A1 sauce, black pepper, sage, 2 bay leaves, coriander, cumin, and beef broth. Potatoes, onion, baby carrots, and celery (as much as you think will fit in the pot with your roast). A large pan, a medium mixing bowl, and a slow cooker. Oh and the most important secret ingredient... 1 beer (any kind will do).
Chop the vegetables into large pieces, season the meat (with your steak seasoning) and mix all the other seasonings into the broth. In the large pan sear the entire outside of the meat to lock in the natural juices. Then place at the bottom of the slow cooker and add all other ingredients on top, saving the beer to be the last ingredient... pour whole bottle in (or as much of it as will fit). Stir, cover, and turn on high for 1 hr. Turn down to low for four hrs or till meat is around 165 and potatoes are soft.
in the bowl combine 2tablespoons soft butter and the same amount of cornstarch add one ladle of soup from the pot and mix well. Remove the rest of soup and place in pan and bring to a boil. Now add the cornstarch mixture to broth, continue to boil until thickened up to a gravey.
Carve and serve...add a side dish or two then enjoy
Haha I thought my name was missing :-P ...meat and potatoes -- that I can eat everyday. If I don't have a slow cooker, would cooking this in a pot be fine?
@allischaaff, "Texas toast, cheesy garlic bread
@allischaaff, chuck roast, tip roast, rump roast... pretty much any beef with the word roast in the name is good
Also @RobertMarsh I like how you included so many photos so we can see exactly what you did/used :) Did you guys pair this with some cheesy biscuits or garlic bread or something? (first pic)
So a roast cut of meat would just be called like...a pot roast, right? Or what do you look for at the store?
