MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/22/15)

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day!

5. Andres Blanco (Philadelphia Phillies)

The ball was grounded towards second, but Andres Blanco dives and smothers it. He throws to first on his knees and gets the batter out to end the inning. The way he spun on the ground was so smooth and elegant, he made it look easy. The Phillies also beat the Marlins 6-2.

4. Billy Burns (Oakland A’s)

Shin Soo Choo lines the ball hard to center field. But Burns already took off as soon as the ball made contact and he is there to make the diving catch. Choo is robbed a hit as Burns makes a break and gets there before the ball hits the ground. Despite Burns's amazing play, the A's fall to the Rangers 8-6.

3. Nick Ahmed (Arizona Diamondbacks)

Where are all these amazing shortstops coming from? Nick Ahmed dives for the ball and manages to stop it before it gets to the outfield. He doesn't even get up fully and manages to throw perfectly to the second baseman sideways! This is truly an amazing play and with the combination of a great defense and a hot offense, the Diamondbacks crush the Dodgers 8-0.

2. Francisco Lindor (Cleveland Indians)

Francisco Lindor makes the list once again. He seems to pull something crazy every time he plays. This time, even the commentators thought for sure it was going to be a hit. But no, Lindor makes the diving backhand catch, gets up, and throws a laser beam to first to get the batter out. Cleveland however falls to Minnesota 3-1.

1. Jose Bautista (Toronto Blue Jays)

Today's number one play goes to Jose Bautista. It was a fly ball to right and Chris Young was ready to tag home. But you have to understand good old Joey Bats is not simply a monster on offense. He may have a sore shoulder but this guy still has one of the best arms in the league. He makes the throw in time to get Young out. And do you know what's even more impressive? That was his second assist of the night. I know @jeff4122 is going to like this very much.
Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!

loved the Ahmed throw, but really impressed with the cannon of Bautista on the play. Watching an outfielder deny a run is awesome!
Hahahh you're spot on - love the play by Bautista. He did it earlier in the game, too! Two outfield assists on absolutely incredible throws... the coolest.
That throw by Ahmed was ridiculous! Most people can't throw that straight standing up! Outstanding.
@christianmordi I know bro...especially when it gets to home without touching the ground....incredible.
@jeff4122 Haha yeah saw that one too. That one was freakish too. I thought Bautista had a sore shoulder or something....imagine what he could do with a pain-free shoulder.

Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Asdrubal Cabrera (Tampa Bay Rays) Big Papi lines one to second but is caught by Asdrubal Cabrera! Pedroia was already running towards third and Cabrera wasn't going to let him off the hook just yet. He races to second base and makes it into a double play. The leaping catch alone was great, but him beating Pedroia to the bag made the play so much better. Despite the unassisted double play, the Rays fall to the Red Sox 8-7. 4. Aaron Hill (Arizona Diamondbacks) It was a ground ball hit by Crawford but Aaron Hill dived for it and managed to stop it. He stayed down on the ball and even though he didn't catch it perfectly, he picked up the ball on his knees and threw it in time to get Crawford out at first and end the inning. The Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers 8-4. 3. Kole Calhoun (Los Angeles Angels) Another beautiful assist from the outfield. It was a base hit all right but what was the third base coach thinking when he waved in Altuve? I mean Altuve's pretty fast all right, but you don't want to underestimate Kole Calhoun's arm. Calhoun guns down Altuve from right field and it was right on the money. The Angels however fall to the Astros, 6-3. 2. Kris Bryant (Chicago Cubs) And our stud from Chicago makes it in the Top 5 Plays of the Day. (Oh, just in case you haven't checked out my "Cubs Star Kris Bryant Surprises Fans" card, you def should!) Anyways, this was one of the strangest plays ever. The wild pitch bounces off the screen and goes all the way to third and Bryant caught it. Scooter Gennett thinks he can advance all the way to first but Bryant's not going to let him have it and dives to third to get him out. The Brewers challenged the play, but nope, Bryant definitely got him out. The Cubs beat the Brewers 9-5. 1. David Price (Toronto Blue Jays) Our number one play of the day comes from David Price! The ball was lined right to the mound, but somehow David Price managed to catch the ball! It was going right towards his face and I don't even know how Price reacted to that. One thing's for sure. I am so glad he caught that. If he hadn't....well, I don't even want to think about it. The Blue Jays come on top of the Yankees 4-2 with an exceptional pitching performance by none other than David Price. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! MLB Top 5 Plays of the Day (10/04/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Starlin Castro (Chicago Cubs) It was a fair ball down the first baseline. But after Anthony Rizzo fumbled the ball, it looked like it was going to be a base hit. But Castro beautifully went to cover for Rizzo and tossed the ball the Dan Haren to get the out! The Cubs beat the Brewers 3-1 in their final regular season game. 4. Nick Noonan (San Francisco Giants) This one was skied shallow to center field. We saw something similar the night before so when Nick Noonan went for it, we knew magic was going to happen once again. He followed the ball nicely to make the catch! The Giants however fell to the Rockies 7-3 in their final game of the season. 3. Jose Ramirez (Cleveland Indians) It was hit deep second base, but Jose Ramirez followed the ball perfectly and spun around to make a perfect throw to first. He not only got the out, he also made it to the Top 5 Plays of the Day! The Indians beat the Red Sox 3-1. 2. Kris Bryant (Chicago Cubs) The superstar rookie is still on fire as he preps for his first ever Major League post season. Bryant made that smooth backhand catch and made a jump toss all the way to first to get the out! What was even more incredible was the fact that it was a no hopper. He also got a standing ovation from the fans. Again, the Cubs beat the Brewers 3-1. 1. Nolan Reimold (Baltimore Orioles) The ball was hit high into left-center field. The wind was carrying the ball further and further away from Reimold, but he wasn't going to give up. Just as the ball was about to hit the ground, Reimold dived and caught the ball! What a play by Reimold! The Orioles beat the Yankees 9-2 for their final game of the season. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! Blue Jays fight one back
Toronto needed one, and they got it. After dropping Games 1 and 2 to the Royals in Kansas City, the Blue Jays absolutely had to have Game 3 in order to save their season. Going down 3-0 would not have boded well for their chances. Early in the game, it looked like Kansas City was going to continue their hot streak - they scored in the top of the first to make it 1-0. However, the Blue Jays jumped on Johnny Cueto, scoring 3 runs in the second and putting up a six spot in the 3rd. Cueto has been all over the place recently. After being traded from the Reds to the Royals at the deadline in the summer, when he was one of the best pitchers in the league, the long-haired monster has struggled mightily since coming to Kansas City. He had a few good starts in earlier in the playoffs, but was rocked in Monday's game, putting up a line of 2.0 innings pitched, walking 4 and allowing 6 hits and 8 runs. Das not good. Blue Jays starter Marcus Strohman wasn't great - he allowed 11 hits over 6.1 innings - but he limited the damage to 4 runs allowed, which was enough on a night that the Blue Jays really had the bats going. So now the series is 2-1, still in favor of the Royals, with two more games in Toronto before the series heads back to Kansas City for Game 6 and Game 7. It's getting tighter, and tonight's game will go a long way to either watching Kansas City start to wrap things up or seeing Toronto level the thing at 2. Tonight, it's knuckeballer R.A. Dickey for Toronto vs. Chris Young for the Royals. I'm happy to see Dickey, an ex-Met, get a really key start in the playoffs. I'm rooting for the Royals in this series, but think Toronto gets the win tonight behind the veteran starter. What do you think? Will KC take a 3-1 lead tonight or can Toronto continue to fight? @ButterflyBlu @superiorsl @Starbell808 @DonnaMelton @jokes @BEAUTYgirlARIEL @David19Flo23 @karencorchado @SamuelRodriguez @xitlalicordova1 @AndrewMaldonado @Link4TW @DannyMoses @ClaySharko @Ravenwing92 @FromBlue2U @LemissaNicole @BossDominata @MalikLawary @KyleBerke
