So a couple of days ago a good friend of mine put me on to The Front Bottoms. They've been on my radar for a while and I never thought I'd ever check out their music but here I am and here you are. Once I heard Tattooed Tears, I knew the exact feeling that runs throughout the song.
I've been in many situations where I feel like things are going right but it obviously isn't working out. I think tonally, the song covers that as well. The minor chords already let you know that, well, maybe something is going on. But it isn't the musicality of the song that really gets this feeling. It's the lyrics. The way the song is put together, you're following the narrator of the song through his journey and even though the chorus sounds a little uplifting, what he's saying twists the knife.
Let's talk about how it felt on my shoulders as it came pouring out my ears. Let's talk about the face of our love and how it might look with the addition of tattooed tears. Let's talk about the torn up skin on my fingers right where it meets my fingernails. Let's talk about what you call sliding carefully is seriously slipping out of control. I'm gonna have to learn that this love will never be convenient. I'm gonna have to learn that this love will never be convenient.
