Last night, Jake Arrieta made his case for NL Cy Young that much stronger, pitching a complete game shutout.
This guy isn't just winning games; he's dominating.
9 innings. 3 hits. 1 walk. 11 strikeouts.
It doesn't get much better than that.
A few weeks ago, I would've given the award to Zack Greinke for sure.
But with Arrieta the first to 20 wins, and Greinke sitting at 18 with only a few more starts to go, I think I'm changing my mind and giving my vote to Arrieta.
He's carried the Cubs all season and is a major reason why they're going to make the playoffs.
Who gets your vote? Is it still Greinke, given his insane ERA (1.65)? Do Kershaw's ridiculous strikeout numbers (272) take the cake? Or is it time to pay respects to Arrieta, who has the most wins and an ungodly ERA of his own (1.88)?
