United escape with a win
Manchester United got the weekend of EPL football underway with a tight win over Watford on early Saturday morning. Despite being on the road, this was a match that United really needed to win, and they came out firing from the first minute. Manager Louis van Gaal went with an attacking formation as youngster Jesse Lingard got another start for the Red Devils against lowly Watford. Major signing Memphis Depay got the scoring started in the 11th minute and is hoping to answer some of the people who think he was a waste of money after a difficult start to live in Manchester but this was a big performance for the Dutch winger. Troy Deeney scored a late penalty for Watford to equalize - he tied it up in the 87th minute - before conceding an own goal in added time that gave United the win. It was a gusty performance from Watford, who seem to put in a decent showing each week but are struggling to come up with results. It's always difficult for new teams in the EPL and Watford are feeling the effects of the increased quality in a major way. It wasn't all good for United, though, as midfielder Ander Herrera limped off the pitch in the first half with an injury. Definitely one of the more underrated players in the league, Herrera was just recovering from a different injury and had made his way back into the first team for the first time in a few weeks today so he'll be upset to have another spell on the sidelines. All in all, a good win for United, as they move to first in the table over their rivals City. City have a game in hand but United can only be thrilled with their performance and especially the result. They'll be hoping City drop points today against Liverpool to maintain the top spot. EPL Matchday 16: What we learned
After a great weekend of EPL action, let's step back and see what this week taught us. Watford may be here to stay A team that most expected to go right back down to the Championship at the end of this season, Watford have surprised many and have somehow climbed up to 7th in the table with a win over Sunderland. Sure, beating Sunderland is nothing overly impressive, but their 7 wins from 16 matches is a good haul and it looks like they could establish themselves in this division. Liverpool continue their inconsistent form In a wild match, Liverpool clawed back with a late, late goal to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with West Brom. Keeper Simon Mignolet will take a lot of the blame as he allowed as soft a goal as you'll see. But a deflected long-rage effort from Divock Origi gave Liverpool the point and Klopp will be happy to take something. Liverpool sit in 9th and need to put together a good run in the Christmas season. Palace are legit European contenders Form, and Palace have plenty of it. They climb to 6 with a win over Southampton and are flying high. Their defense is amongst the best in the league as they've allowed just 15 goals in 16 matches. Alan Pardew has the Eagles playing a great brand of football and they deserve their place in the business end of the table. United in crisis Uh oh. A 2-1 loss to Bournemouth has United officially in crisis following their Champions League exit. While they still sit in 4th, they have been unconvincing all season and something is going to have to start changing. Manager Louis van Gaal will begin taking some real fire unless the results change. At the moment, this is not a good football team, plain and simple. Did you watch any of the matches this week? What do you think? @InPlainSight @AbdulrahmanSaad @trinityarcangel @thefeels @MarcusJiles @DerekGumtow @havic @yaakattackk @bnzatton @SherzTYCi @krishntejanand @addri @mishthi @andwas @NimishMathur @Sydsocquet @starli @kyleatekwana @BenjiPhilip @Eduardo14 @AshfakEjaaz @EmanueleYagoda
Arsenal Upsets Bayern Munich!
Arsenal managed to keep their hopes up in the UEFA Champions League as they collected their first win of the Champions League against Bayern Munich. They were on the verge of elimination after losing the first two matches against Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb. It was surely an upset considering the fact that Munich was a favorite to win the whole thing. But here's the thing. Today's match was more like a match between Arsenal's Petr Cech against Munich's Manuel Neuer. Just take a moment to appreciate the stellar performance that these two goalies put on tonight. Here are couple of saves by Neuer. And here are some by Cech. It was impossible to get behind these two until this happened. In the 77th minute of the game, just three minutes after Olivier Giroud replaced Theo Walcott, Giroud scored the first goal of the game. Neuer, who was having a perfect night, lost sight of the ball in the air and let this one get by him. Yes, the greatest goalkeeper in the world do make mistakes. Then this happened in the 94th minute to seal the win for Arsenal. It seemed like Neuer saved this one, but take a closer look. The ball had definitely passed the goal line! A goal from Mesut Ozil to make the match 2-0 and brings home the victory at Emirates Stadium. Cech definitely was the game changer and MVP for Arsenal, but I feel like Wenger really should be given credit for last night's win. He was well prepared and his strategy seemed to be effective against one the best teams in the world! What do my football (soccer) fans think of Arsenal's victory?
