Also called "Future Diary"
This psychological thriller, based on the manga written and illustrated by Sakae Esuno, is about Yuki, a loner who's not very good with people. He prefers to write a diary on his cell phone and talk to his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina – The God of Time and Space. However, Yuki soon learns that Deus is more than a figment of his imagination when he makes Yuki participate in a battle royale with eleven others. The contestants are given special diaries that can predict the future, each diary possessing unique features that give it both advantages and disadvantages. Within the next 90 days, the contestants must try to survive until there is only one left standing. The winner will become the new God of Time and Space.
Status: Completed (26 Episodes)
It's one of the best psychological/horror anime I've watched in this decade. It's basically "Hunger Games" with phone diaries that tell you the future and you have to act accordingly to kill the others, win and become the next god. But this would be just talking about the tip of what the whole anime has to offer. As it progresses, the story becomes more complex and the way every competitor uses their future diary is intriguing and the storys execution is just mind blowing. Lastly, it has two different endings so make sure to check both and decide which one you liked the most.
Same as the story, the characters are very interesting with their own way of doing things. Deus (God) sadly is kind of the most stale character in here (I expected more, I mean is the God of time and space). Yuki (Male Protagonist) is, personally, the type of character I hate the most as he's scardy-pants who can't do anything by himself (but he ends up making up for it). Yuno (Female Protagonist and the main reason, with the story, why this anime is so enjoyable) is the definition of stalker and psychopath, She's LITERALLY the image of Yandere. This is all I will say to not spoil anything.
As I said earlier, this is basically the anime "Hunger Games". The phones becoming Future Diaries (basically their lives) felt like another version of the death note, at least for me. Instead of writing the name of the person, you know what the other competitors are thinking and are going to do, so you can plan accordingly. However, the fact that every other person knows what you are thinking as well is what makes this so enjoyable and mind blowing, it really does make you think.
The songs in Mirai Nikki are all amazing. They all give you that feeling of "Oh, it's gonna get real". The songs have the best balanced mix of Epic + Creepy, which was a pretty rare combination before Mirai Nikki was released. If you got the time, i'll really recommend listening to all the songs in this anime, they're just too good to not listen to.
It's been a while but I wanted to give the community a horror anime review/recommendation as the month of Halloween is coming up. Also, I was surprised that many people still haven't watched this so here you go!
Hope You Enjoy!~
