We all know Brazilians love soccer. Things tend to get really intense when they play the sport.

Well, shit got real yesterday when Gabriel Murta, a referee was kicked and slapped by players. But it did not stop there. Murta, whose day job is a police officer during the day, went back to the locker room and returned with his gun.
Watch the full video below.
Fortunately, his linesmen and one of the goalies managed to stop Murta from firing any shots.

Currently under investigation, Murta said he felt threatened by the players and went to get his firearm to defend himself.

He is also going through a psychological assessment and after a thorough investigation, he could either face suspension or a permanent ban from the referees' association.
When it comes to soccer, things get out of hand in Brazil. But guns really?

Murta said he brought his gun in order to "control the situation".

Personally, I don't buy it. And guns should never ever be used to control any types of situation, especially in the world of sports.

oh my god! The players shouldn't have been assaulting him for sure but bringing a gun was only going to escalate the situation! My dad and I both ref and when players get like that we both just stop the game. Doesn't matter if people get mad tbh, blame the immature players! There are guidelines for how to deal with these situations even in the really minor leagues where I've worked!

I feel like that would be the opposite of "controlling the situation"

@shannonl5 That's so true....I still can't believe he brought his gun out though. The situation was getting out of hand for sure, but what if none of the linesmen stopped him. Things would have made things a lot worse...
