Transform a simple strand of lights into a statement piece with this DIY tutorial. This project is perfect for decorating a dorm room or apartment. You can also use them to decorate a fun room in your house (or maybe a kids' room). This DIY tutorial comes from Oh Happy Day.
For this project, you will need:
-- A string of lights (make sure you are using lights that stay cool when lit, like LED lights)
-- Two sizes of cupcake wrappers
-- X-acto knife
You can find these items at a craft store.
Make flower shapes
Use the scissors to cut flower shapes into the cupcake wrappers. You can do it free-hand or fold the wrappers up and cut off the corners, as shown in the pictures.
Cut a small X in the middle of the wrappers
Use the X-acto knife to cut a small X in the middle of the bottom of the cupcake wrappers. Stack a few of the different sized flowers together to give your lights a little more dimension.
Attach to lights
Slip the cupcake wrappers over the lights on the string of lights. You can dab a little bit of glue on the underside of the cupcake wrappers to make sure that they stay there. Just make sure that you don't put glue on the lightbulbs (it can be a fire hazard).
Put up your lights and enjoy them!
Make sure you don't leave them on if you aren't in your house — it can be a fire hazard.
