Steven A. Smith has been on the wrong side of the whipping stick entirely too much in 2015.
A day after the First Take co-host said the Lakers were Kevin Durant’s first choice if he chose not to re-sign with Oklahoma City in free agency this summer, Durant called Smith a liar.
"I don't talk to Stephen A. Smith at all. Neither does anyone in my family, my friends, they don't talk to Stephen A. Smith, so he is lying," said Durant during an interview.
Smith was called out big time about the credibility of his source. Rather than let it blow over, Smith replied.
Smith hopped on twitter to say Smith Durant’s response was “uncalled for,” and “FALSE.”
"Regarding @KDTrey5 and his negative comments about me, let me say this: At NO time did I ever say I SPOKE to K.D. Or his family. Or his brother, friends, teammates, etc. (although I can assure you all I have on several occasions in the past). I said I HEARD from folks I know — in a league I’ve been covering for 19 years — that if he were to leave OKC as a free agent, these are the cities I was told he was considering. OKC. LA. Miami. DC. NY. I stand by it all. And that is that."
This era of journalism is VERY sketchy. You see a lot of people creating juicy headlines and pushing articles with very loose sources. This was a case Smith was called on the source. In my opinion, he could've named his source and remained credible or let this one pass..
What do you think Smith should've done?
