So I figured now that I'm a part of the community, I should tell you how my love for kpop, and the Korean culture in general, all started!
So it all started back in the summer of 2009 (I know this is such a cliche opening, but just bear with me), I was entering my freshman year of high school and I didn't really have anything to do. I mean, I was 13, and I wasnt allowed to do much since I didn't have a phone, I didn't have a car, heck I couldn't even cross the street by myself (my parents were very strict). So one very random day, I log on to youtube, which was what I usually did because I had a theory that if I repeatedly saw funny videos I would eventually be funny myself, but that was never the case, and someone I was subscribed to, his name was Tedeezy or something like that (I'm not sure if he uploads videos anymore or not), uploaded an english cover of the song "Wedding Dress" by Taeyang, and I LOVED IT. But me being the curious person that I am, I had to see the original version of the song and see if it was as good as the cover (my mentality back then, don't judge me). And when I looked it up I found this:
And my intial reaction was WHOOOAA. I had to watch the video twice. Once to really absorb the beauty that was Taeyang, and second to really listen to the song itself. Now when I was actually listening to it, I had no idea what was going on. I didn't realize that when Tedeezy mentioned "English Cover", he really meant English cover. I tried reading the comments to see what language it was, but most of them were focused on the video itself and I was getting really upset. So I went and consulted Dr. Google and shortly enough I found Taeyang's bio and it said he was Korean and a part of the group Big Bang. Now because I wanted to see what else Taeyang had to offer I found this:
Tell Me Goodbye by Big Bang. I got to see my honey Taeyang, but I also got to meet the legendary TOP, G Dragon, Daesung, and Seungri, and you would think Taeyang would still be my bias after everything, but Seungri quickly swooped in and took that spot (he's still my bias to this day). So because I wanted to see my new baby Seungri, I kept looking for more, and more, and more, one group led to another, and it was just a constant cycle, to the point where I was just so hooked, I couldn't even escape, and once korean dramas came into the picture, it was a done deal. But honestly, I don't regret anything in the least bit.
I'm 19 now, a sophomore in college, and my love for kpop and the Korean culture has grown to no end within these past 6 years, and it can only get stronger from here on out. Thank you for your time ^_^
