Barack and Michelle Obama Celebrate 23 Years of Marriage

Yesterday the POTUS and the FLOTUS celebrated their 23rd Anniversary. And man was it cute. So to celebrate 23 years of being the most envied couple in the U.S. (ok, well technically they became that when Barrack became the president, but whatever). I’d like to showcase the cute things the couple has said. And admire their couple presence.
Because for me, they truly are #relationshipgoals
Barack: “Sometimes, when we’re lying together, I look at her and I feel dizzy with the realization that here is another distinct person from me, who has memories, origins, thoughts, feelings that are different from my own. That tension between familiarity and mystery meshes something strong between us. Even if one builds a life together based on trust, attentiveness and mutual support, I think that it’s important that a partner continues to surprise.”
Michelle: “One of the things that attracted me to Barack was his emotional honesty. Right off the bat he said what he felt. There are no games with him—he is who he appears to be. I feel fortunate as a woman to have a husband who loves me and shows me in every way.”
Barack: "And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years ... the rock of our family, the love of my life, the nation's next first lady ... Michelle Obama."
Michelle: “When I first met Barack, we started dating, he had everything going for him...Yes, he was handsome--still is. I think so. He was charming, talented, and oh-so smart, truly. But that is not why I married him."
"What truly made me fall in love with Barack Obama was his character...It was his decency, his honesty, his compassion and conviction."

I can’t be the only one that thinks these two are presh.

So, to some of you new Vinglers following my Politi-Cool Collection. (And anyone else that loves this duo) I ask you a very important question...

Who else is a fan of the First Couple?

MRW: The State Of The Union Address
Tonight was the United States' annual State of the Union address. To those of you a little rusty on your US politics, every January, the president delivers the State of the Union, a speech that addresses all that has been accomplished in the past year, all the current problems the nation is facing, and what citizens can expect of their government moving forward. Since it's an event full of politics, it's incredibly entertaining to make fun of - especially since, in such speeches, there's a very fine line between promise and prose. I've never been a huge fan of the politics, but I do understand the significance of the State of the Union as a citizen of the country. And as a citizen of the country, I get to make fun of it too, right? SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, my MRW: State Of The Union edition.* ** MRW = "My Reaction When..." (for those of you still out of the know) MRW: POTUS says he'll make junior college free this year. PEACE OUT, CRIPPLING DEBT!! WE WISH WE NEVER KNEW YE!! MRW: POTUS makes not-so-subtle jabs at Republicans. One of the biggest highlights of the speech was "Food Stamp recipients didn’t cause the financial crisis; recklessness on Wall Street did." Daaaaamn, Obama. It must be easy to talk smack when you're not up for re-election. MRW: POTUS claims Veep Biden will help America cure cancer. Okay, I'm pretty sure Obama meant that Biden would make sure that the National Institutes of Health would have all the financial resource they need in order to cure cancer, but it was pretty much phrased like Biden freelances in clinical oncology on the side. Which would be weird. But also wildly impressive? MRW: POTUS mentions the country's renewed relationship with Cuba. Maybe in a few years, we'll finally be able to tour the country ourselves and eat some REAL Cuban sandwiches. You know, fingers crossed. MRW: POTUS follows up each point with 'America is the best! We're world leaders!' rhetoric. Okay, okay, we get it. We're Americans, and we come from an incredibly capable and successful country. But you don't have to turn this into an America advertisement. We're U.S. citizens. We're all sipping the same red, white, and blue Kool-Aid. MRW: POTUS says he'll be brief, but it turns into the 16th longest speech in the State of the Union's 226 year history. This kid is like the official representative of everyone who stuck it out watching the SOTU at home. That yawn is pretty much everything. And with that, I give you my reactions to this year's State of the Union. Feel free to add your own thoughts regarding this week's speech in the comment section below!

Michelle Obama for Vogue
Showing off her killer arms in a figure-flattering blue Reed Krakoff dress as well as those face-framing bangs that caused such a stir earlier this year, Michelle Obama doesn't look like your average mom on the cover of Vogue. And while she certainly isn’t, within the magazine’s pages she most definitely sounds like one, talking about life in the White House as daughters Malia and Sasha progress through adolescence – as well as helping her husband, President Barack Obama, to put his best foot forward. "Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole," says the FLOTUS in the April issue of the magazine. "You know, we have small kids; they’re growing every day. But I think we were both pretty straightforward when we said, ‘Our number-one priority is making sure that our family is whole.'" Now that Malia is 14 and Sasha is 11, the way they go about that has changed. She talks about how things have become more "elastic" and "flexible" when it comes to the girls, so that they can experience normal aspects of adolescence whenever possible. "There’s a lot of energy that goes into working with staff, working with [Secret Service] agents, working with friends’ parents to figure out how do we, you know, let these kids go to the party and have a sleepover and walk through the city on their own, go to the game," says the first lady. "Any parent knows that these are the times when you’re just a scheduler and chauffeur for your kids. And that doesn’t change for us. Ninety percent of our conversation is about these girls: What are they doing? And who’s got what practice? And what birthday party is coming up? And did we get a gift for this person? You know, I mean, it is endless and it gets to be pretty exhausting, and if you take your eye off the ball, that’s when their lives become inelastic.” And despite her husband being, ya know, the leader of the free world, he plays a large role in the day-to-day lives of the girls. "He’s doing it while still dealing with Syria and health care," she says. "He’s as up on every friend, every party, every relationship. ... And if you’re out at dinner every night, you miss those moments where you can check in and just figure them out when they’re ready to share with you.” The 49-year-old says that when she becomes overwhelmed or stressed with what is certainly an overwhelming life, she channels her husband, who is known for his calm demeanor. "I’ve learned that from my husband, that sort of, you know, ability to not get too high or too low with changes and bumps in the road … to do more breathing in and just going with it. I’m learning that every day," she says. As well as to "go and enjoy it and take it in and not take things too personally.” And the first lady wasn’t the only Obama to participate in the Vogue interview. As for what the president has learned from his wife, he tells the mag himself: “What Michelle has done is to remind me every day of the virtues of order. Being on time. Hanging up your clothes. Being intentional about planning time with your kids. There’s no doubt I’m a better man having spent time with Michelle." And he's certainly better dressed. The 51-year-old politico talks about how he only used to own two suits – and, needless to say, his wardrobe is much more polished now for meetings with other world leaders. “Thank God,” Michelle says, as her husband laughs. “Now, let me tell you: This is the man who still boasts about, This khaki pair of pants I’ve had since I was 20. And I’m like, ‘You don’t want to brag about that.’ … The girls and I are always rooting when he wears, like, a stripe. They’re like, ‘Dad! Oh, you look so handsome. Oh, stripes! You go!” “Michelle’s like Beyoncé in that song,” the president says. “ ‘Let me upgrade ya!’ She upgraded me. As for her own style, which is often buzzed about whether she's wearing Reed Krakoff or her favorite, J.Crew. “I always say that women should wear whatever makes them feel good about themselves," she shares. "That’s what I always try to do. ... I also believe that if you’re comfortable in your clothes it’s easy to connect with people and make them feel comfortable as well. In every interaction that I have with people, I always want to show them my most authentic self.” Mission accomplished … at least in this interview. cr:yahoo
