Ichiro Takes the Mound

Is there anything Ichiro Suzuki cannot do?

The baseball prodigy from Japan finally got to take the mound for the first time in his fifteen year major league career tonight during the final game of the 2015 regular season game. In fact, pitching in a Major League game was one of his baseball bucket lists as he said during an interview with the New York Times in 2014.
"I would be happy to help if they need me," he said, his eyes brightening at the prospect of it. Suzuki pitched to one batter in the 1996 Japan All-Star Game, and with his free-and-easy delivery, he induced a ground ball for an out from a pitcher. Suzuki has two strong pitches. "Fastball and slider," he said with pride. "But like all Japanese pitchers, the splitter is my bread and butter."

Well, he finally achieved that dream in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Marlins trailed 6-2 to the Philadelphia Phillies.

The first batter he faced, Odubel Herrera, hit a double to right field, but Ichiro quickly got the next batter, Cameron Rupp, to fly out.
Then, Sweeny hit a double to bring in Herrera. But Ichiro kept his cool and got a groundout from Freddy Galvis.
He finished the inning with a popup to left field by Aaron Altherr.

Not a bad outing for his first time pitching in the Major League!

Also check out this nasty slider the had Galvis swinging.

The future Hall of Famer, who made his MLB debut in 2001, had accumulated 2935 hits, ten Gold Gloves, and 498 steals.

Ichiro can now add 1.0 Inning(s) Pitched and an ERA of 9.00 to his career stats!

Here's a little bonus when Ichiro made his first pitching debut during the Japanese All-Star Games in 1996.

How would you guys evaluate Ichiro's first pitching performance?

@mchlyang i have him for what he did in WBC vs korea but he is really gifted and good.
@karencorchado True dat. He is def a role model for the younger players and he is for sure going to be a Hall of Famer in the future. I was upset too. I'm not gonna try to piss off Marlins fans, but I really wanted him to play for a great team like the Yankees and then retire. He def deserves a World Series ring.
He is great. He actually reminds me of the bugs bunny cartoon where bugs bunny plays baseball and he plays all positions ☺️ I was upset when the Yankees traded him last year, and to the Marlins of all teams. That's ok, which ever team gets him, they have a great player in their hands ⚾️⚾️⚾️
@TessStevens Haha I know right? He's def one of the most talented baseball player in the world! I'm glad he got a chance to show off his pitching skills last night!

When you can't decide on your favorite player...
Giancarlo Stanton and Ichiro Suzuki are both great baseball players. But one thing is for sure! They both play very different types of baseball. Stanton is known for crushing baseballs out of the park... And Ichiro is known for making contact with the ball and his speed! But one thing's for certain. These two are incredible baseball players. So what do you do when you can't decide on your favorite player? THIS. But to be honest...I'm not sure if I'm digging the look. MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/25/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Rafael Ynoa (Colorado Rockies) So the Rockies know a lot about the Dodgers since they're in the same division, which is why they decided to do a major shift facing Andre Ethier. But when Ethier hit that ball, we thought it was going to go beyond the infield. Not Ynoa though. He went to his right to make an outstanding stop and also throw one on his knees to get the out. The Dodgers fell to the Rockies 7-4. 4. Michael Taylor (Washington Nationals) This one was hit towards center and we all thought it was going to be a routine popup play for Michael Taylor. However, there was a lot of wind in Washington today as we go into fall and the wind killed the ball to come down a lot quicker than expected. Taylor however did not lose focus on the ball and sprinted down to make a fabulous diving catch. The Nats however lost to the Phillies 8-2. 3. Martin Prado (Miami Marlins) We all know Prado is a great third baseman. Well, he proved it once again with this fantastic double play where he showed off his skills in the hot corner. He perfectly timed his dive, stopped the ball, threw one to Gordon on his knees, and Gordon completed the 5-4-3 double play. After a couple of runs back and forth, the Marlins beat the Braves 12-11. 2. Trayce Thompson (Chicago White Sox) Some people think baseball players are just huge, slow guys who crush a ball once in awhile. For those haters out there, Trayce Thompson showed some athleticism and grace with the second best play of the night. The ball was hit hard to right but Thompson wasn't going to let it go over his head. He leaped like a ballerina, extended his glove to make the catch. His throw was a bit off, but at least someone was backing up and he saved a few runs from being scored. The White Sox beat the Yankees 5-2. 1. Mookie Betts (Boston Red Sox) We see a lot of walk-off hits. We don't hear too often about a game-ending play that robbed a possible home run. Well, that is exactly what Mookie Betts did last night when the Red Sox faced the Orioles at Fenway Park. The game could have become more interesting when the 2013 AL home run leader, Chris Davis came up to bat in the ninth. He hit one way back to right field and we all thought it was going to be his 44th home run of the season. But not Mookie Betts who wanted to end the game as quickly as possible. Betts went over the home run fence and robbed Davis of a home run and ended the game a bit early to give his teammates some extra time to rest up. The Red Sox beat the Orioles 7-0. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/29/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Anthony Gose (Detroit Tigers) This one went deep and looked like trouble for the Detroit Tigers. But Gose was already at the fence to leap up and snag that home run from Moreland. He timed his jump perfectly and made the play even better with the nonchalant, sidearm throw after he made the catch. The Tigers fell to the Rangers 7-6. 4. Lorenzo Cain (Kansas City Royals) Another great play from a center fielder! The ball stayed high up in the air for some time and looked as if it was just going over the center field wall. Lorenzo Cain however wasn't going to give up and was not afraid of the fence. He leaped up and caught the ball to rob Thompson's home run. The Royals however fell to the White Sox 4-2. 3. Drew Stubbs (Texas Rangers) It's the top of the ninth with the Rangers leading by 1. Runners are on second and third and a big hit could turn the game around. And that is exactly what Ian Kinsler did as he hit one deep into the outfield. But Stubbs wasn't going to let this one get by. He ran full speed and caught the ball to end the game and lead the Rangers to victory. You could see he went all out as he leaped up the fence and almost went over it. Thanks to an amazing play by Stubbs, the Rangers beat the Tigers 7-6. 2. Trayce Thompson (Chicago White Sox) We all know Trayce Thompson is Superman by day, and baseball player by night. Another fantastic play by the Chicago White Sox outfielder. He reached, leaped, and flew for a couple of seconds to make that catch and end the inning. What a play! The White Sox beat the Royals with Thompson's amazing play, 4-2. 1. Martin Prado (Miami Marlins) I'm just going to say it one more time by Martin Prado is one of the best third basemen in the league. He is also one of the toughest players as well. He made it to the list once again with this amazing over-the-fence play when he chased the ball all the way into foul territory, leaped over the fence, and caught it. Derek Jeter might have left baseball, but we definitely have a lot of players to fill his shoes. The Marlins fell to the Rays 4-2. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games! Love It Or Hate It: Live Sporting Events?
Welcome to the Funny Community game, Love It Or Hate It! This game is really similar to Monday's 'No Good or So Good' food game - except this one deals a lot more with non-food things. Every week, I highlight a different thing that a lot of people either really love or really hate and see how our community feels overall! Last week, I asked you how you felt about SELFIE STICKS. It was an EXTREMELY tight vote, but out of the 60 who gave your opinion, 33 of you said that they're actually kind of useful! Soooo... SELFIE STICKS WIN!!!! This week, I want to know: How do you feel about attending live sports games? Spectator sports have been around since the days of Ancient Greece, but the ones we know and love today came into being in the mid 19th century! The number of Americans that attend at least one live sporting event annually is easily in the tens of millions. However, the amount of them that find said sporting event COMPLETELY BORING is still widely unknown. How do YOU feel about spectator sports? Are they tons of fun or brutally boring? The Best Elliptical Machine Under $500 In 2022: Expert's Top Choices
Everyone needs to work out. Even those who don’t believe it is necessary still feel a sense of guilt when they don’t get enough exercise. If you are looking for the best elliptical machine under $500, you’ve come to the right place. I will be reviewing and comparing the top three elliptical machines that are within the price range. What is an elliptical machine? A elliptical machine is a type of cross-training machine that you can use in your home to get a full-body workout. It is an exercise machine that is designed to simulate walking or running. It is also a great way to burn calories and get a good cardio workout. There are many different types of elliptical machines, but the best type is the one that you can afford. You should look for a machine that is affordable and has a large range of features. These include backlight, heart rate monitor, and workout programs. How to choose the best elliptical machine? When it comes to choosing the best elliptical machine under $500, there are a few things to consider. For starters, you should think about the size of the machine. Are you looking for an elliptical machine that will fit in your living room? Or are you looking for something that will easily fit in your bedroom? If you are looking for an elliptical machine that will fit in your living room, you'll want to find an elliptical machine that is under 50 pounds. If you are looking for an elliptical machine that will fit in your bedroom, you'll want to find an elliptical machine that is under 100 pounds. You should also think about the features of the machine. Some people may want to find a machine that includes a heart monitor. Others may want to find a machine that includes a monitor that tracks your heart rate. Another thing to consider is the warranty. It is important to find a machine with a good warranty so that you are protected in case anything goes wrong with the machine. It would also be best to find a machine that includes a warranty, so that you know you are protected.
The Woman Who Struck Out Babe Ruth
And Lou Gehrig too. On April 2, 1931 the seventeen year-old Jackie Mitchell struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig back-to-back. They were arguably the deadliest hitting duo in baseball history, and she did it in only seven pitches. Which is pretty damn impressive. Less impressive is what happened afterwards. "They are too delicate. It would kill them to play ball every day." Ruth wasn't the most gracious in defeat (via), and some historians have dismissed the exhibition game as an April Fool's Prank. It's unlikely that Ruth would have been visibly upset if he struck out on purpose, nor would he have asked the umpire to inspect the ball. And a few days later, Mitchell's contract was voided on the basis that baseball was "too strenuous" for women. Yeah, beating some of the most famous players of all time sounds really strenuous. What if she broke a nail?! /sarcasm She kept playing anyway. So clearly the game wasn't TOO strenuous (she died in 1987 at the age of 74). She joined the amateur team House of David in 1933, and retired in 1937. Meanwhile, women weren't formally banned from the MLB until 1952, though unofficially they were often kept off the field. Such was the case for Eleanor Engle, who never took the field. The President of the minor leagues stated that no contract with a woman would be approved because “not in the best interest of baseball that such travesties be tolerated.” In the 1970s girls were allowed to join Little League, in the 80s women joined college baseball, and in the 1990s, Ila Borders joined the St. Paul Saints of the independent Northern League. But no female player has reached the majors (yet). But the 100-year anniversary of the time a teenage girl struck out some of the toughest hitters in baseball history. Maybe it'll happen again in 2031?

MLB Top Plays of the Day (09/24/15)
Here are your Top 5 Plays of the Day! 5. Cody Anderson (Cleveland Indians) We saw something similar a few days ago with David Price. Well, he's not the only one in the Major Leagues with monster reflexes. Cody Anderson of the Cleveland Indians wasn't even thinking when he lowered his glove. And the next second, the ball was sitting right there in his glove. The Tribe beats the Twins 6-3. 4. Chase Headley (New York Yankees) The ball was hit hard to third, but Chase Headley wasn't going to let it get passed by him. He dived to stop the ball and got up quickly to fire the ball from foul territory all the way to first to get the out. He robbed a hit from Abreu for sure and possibly one or two RBIs. The Yankees inch past the White Sox 3-2. 3. Nolan Arenado (Colorado Rockies) It was a tough ball for Nolan Arenado. But we know we have seen plenty of great plays from the Rockies third baseman. Arenado grabs it barehand and throws a rocket to first to get the out. This play made his case for a Gold Glove a lot stronger. The Pirates however beat the Rockies 5-4. 2. Marcell Ozuna (Miami Marlins) The ball was hit right center and Marcell Ozuna knew exactly where the ball was going. He did not hesitate one bit and timed his slide perfectly to make it to the second spot on the Top Plays list. With a very strong defense game, the Marlins beat the Phillies 1-0. 1. Miguel Rojas (Miami Marlins) Yes, the Miami defense game was on point tonight and the best play of the night goes to another Miami Marlin, Miguel Rojas. It sure looked like it was going to be a base hit up the middle, but Rojas dived, got on his feet, and fired one to first to get the out. And with great defensive plays from Rojas and Ozuna, the Marlins beat the Phillies, 1-0. Now that was your Top 5 Plays of the Day from last night's games!
