Fall is the time for comfort food, like a hearty, finger-lickin' southern-style pulled pork sandwich. Whether you enjoy a helping of slaw on top or prefer sinking your teeth into nothing but meaty, juicy goodness, this recipe will not disappoint.

Southern Pulled Pork Sandwich

Recipe adapted from Verses From My Kitchen


1 pork shoulder or butt, trimmed (2.5-3 pounds)
1 cup ketchup
1 cup sweet apple cider
1/2 cup water
3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp. smoked paprika
2 tbsp. chili powder
2 tbsp. minced garlic
1 tbsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. hot pepper flakes
1. Place all marinade ingredients in a medium mixing bowl, and stir until combined. Place pork in slow cooker and pour marinade over it, rubbing it in. Cover and cook on medium for 8 hours.
2. When finished cooking, shred meat with a fork. Add sauce (recipe below) and mix until well combined. Serve on a warm bun and enjoy!

Sweet & Spicy Sauce

1 cup cider vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup soft brown sugar
3 tbsp. mustard powder
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 garlic clove, smashed
1 tsp. cayenne powder
pinch of sea salt & cracked fresh pepper
Whisk all ingredients together in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring frequently. Once it's at a smooth consistency, remove from heat and allow to cool.
