Oh dear god, our hearts are broken and all we want to do is lay in bed. Sure, we could stalk our ex's Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/LinkedIn but we've got to do something else with our time! We have to find a way to believe again; believe that there is life after love.
So come with me on this short journey my newly single friends. Here are 3 movies that'll help us both out.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This'll be a good one for you. Aside from the awkward nudity and Russell Brand's accent, it's a pretty funny movie. It'll make you laugh, it'll make you cry, and it'll remind you of one thing:
Even if your ex is in your immediate vicinity, you'll still find a way to move past them. You just have to take the first step out of the depths of sad post-relationship depression.
500 Days of Summer
This one will break you. I'm sorry. But this is important. You have to cry out all the weird residual feelings you have for your ex-partner and start a new. You don't even have to pay attention to the movie. Run through your relationship with a critical lens. Find where/why it went wrong from an objective point of view and move into the next season. You got this.
I've written about Annie Hall briefly before. But the same thing applies here. You've got to come to grips with the fact that relationships are going to be a part of your life. And if they don't last forever, that's fine. You'll move forward, you'll reconnect with your ex for a brief conversation and it'll be healthy, happy, and productive.
The main thing you need to take away from all of these movies is that you will/have to move forward.
If you're suffering (yes, suffering) through a recent break up, don't worry. We all are. I am in a constant state of post-break up sadness. So we'll get through this together and if you have any suggestions for movies I should watch, please let me know. Let's have a sad-movie-watching-party.
