Five Ways to Wear Denim on Denim
It's finally starting to feel like fall, and that means layering weather is about to arrive. During this seasonal transition, I've found that one easy but stylish way to dress is denim on denim, a look that screams fall without making you look like a pumpkin-picking cliché, and a generally weather-appropriate look.
If you think you can't pull off denim on denim, you're wrong. Here are some quick and cute combinations to try when entering Canadian Tuxedo territory.

1. Dark skinny jeans + chambray button-down.

This starts you off simple to the land of the canadian tuxedo, in a universally flattering and easy to wear style. The reverse of this style is obviously lightwash skinny jeans and a darkwash button-down. Just make sure not to match your denim or it will look like an odd jumpsuit. Finish the look with flats, heels, or booties, depending on your preference.

2. The Rihanna: fitted denim skirt + tucked denim button-down

Rihanna worked this style, and you can too! Don't be intimidated. Go for a denim pencil skirt in a hip-hugging style, and tuck in your button down for a more casual twist on the polished outfit cliché of a white button-down and black pencil skirt. Avoid adding a denim clutch (unless you are Rihanna) to keep from going overboard.

3. Denim shorts over tights + slouchy tee + denim jacket.

Your favorite denim shorts don't need to retire for the colder seasons. Wear them over dark tights and with black booties or flats (to avoid breaking up the line of your leg more), and keep the look casual with a slouchy tee, or layer two like this gal does. Top off the look with a denim jacket of any wash.

4. Denim a-line skirt + simple tee + denim jacket.

Whether you're skirt's a mini or midi, this look comes across both casual and put-together for those fickle fall days. The denim jacket doesn't need to match the skirt, but getting that matchy-matchy look can be pretty cute. If you're feeling all blue, wear a blue tee, as long as it doesn't look like it could be denim from afar, but any color will do under your denim jacket.

5. Denim jacket over denim blouse + black or colored jeans.

This is a stylish and simple way to layer on a brisk fall day. Tuck your blouse in or let it hang over your (preferably skinny) jeans, and pull the sleeves through your denim jacket so the cuffs are visible. Layer on jewelry or a leather belt if you so choose, but keep your accessories relatively simple.
