The color palette for this stunning two-tier wedding cake comes from directly from nature: the dusty blue shades of the hydrangea sitting atop the cake.
What appears to be sponge painted in an ombre fashion from dark to light gives this cake unexpected drama because of its almost-gray colorscape. Gray (or grey, as others spell it), is a really hot neutral that can be paired with bright colors, muted colors or stand on its own.
The idea of going almost gray is really special because it's not something that you see a lot of.
On a side note, what do you think of the braided fondant at the base of the bottom tier? Really fantastic if you ask me. I love the dimension and textural quality of it. It too varies in colors from strand to strand.
Cakes like this don't need a lot of fuss. Keep it simple, elegantly displayed and you'll be fine. Let the cake speak for itself.
