The story takes place at a certain middle school where several murder cases take place. Kobayashi, a boy who goes to school, meets genius detective Akechi, who comes to the school to investigate. Kobayashi takes an interest in Akechi and, in spite of his friend Hashiba's worries, he volunteers to be Akechi's assistant.

Status: Completed (11 Episodes)

Ranpo Kitan has to be one of the best mystery animes released recently. It's full of gore and murder. The story, even though it's short, will have to intrigued for the whole series. Some people have even compared this to Sherlock. Another important fact is that it's gives the viewer that thrill factor from the get go. It's another one of those animes that you can't stop watching until you finish it. I have to say the only thing I have to complain about is that the anime is too short.

There are some really interesting characters for this one. Starting with the protagonist, Kobayashi. A school boy who looks like a girl (he's pretty cute), who is bored of life and school in general, smart and loves to play detective. Akechi is a high school detective, and it's the typical smart and cool anime character. Then we have the supporting characters and they all have their own charm. There's "Paper-bag man" who can basically copycat anybody's face and voice. There's Akechis old assistant, who's basically a die-hard masochist, and I could go on and on with the characters.

-Unique Features-

Japan is famous for being geniuses in the horror and mystery genre, and this is no exception. This is proof that Japan is still one of the best countries to manipulate this genre. Some animes have predictable outcomes, but Ranpo Kitan MAKES you think you know what's gonna happen and you might, most likely, end up being wrong. The animation is another feature that intrigued me the most. It's still anime but they added that blurred and shiny touch which makes it even creepier. Lastly, the humor is great when it wants to be funny, which is another one of Japan's best attributes.

The opening is amazing! It's a mix of tribal-rap and J-Rock which is one of the most unique openings in anime. Not only that it gives the viewer an idea of the style of the anime and gets you ready for what's about to come. The ending song is also great, a classic J-Rock style song with a haunting feeling that still gives you those goosebumps, and it will keep you coming back for the next episode.
Since Death Note, I've loved psychological/horror/mystery animes and this one does not disappoint. It has been one of the best anime this summer-fall. Make sure you check this one out!
Hope You Enjoy!~

For those who want to be tagged or removed from the list just let me know~

Ahhh yay! Another anime to add to my list :D
@RosePark it's 130am, I'm on episode 5. I'll finish it in the morning. so far it's incredibly good though.
@Arellano1052 haha I'm the same, but anime is always top priority for my free time! @KyleSearl You heard the man people, <Hulu Plus>. Also, it's awesome that you're already into it! I would love to know what you think about it when you're finished~ @littlemaryk @WTFwaffle I know right?! It was even 1 episode shorter than most animes these days (average is 12 now) and we only get the backstory of one character (won't spoil who). @MaighdlinS Nice~ Definitely check this one. I got hooked just by listening to the opening lol (I'm easily hooked when it's anime.....)
just finished the first episode and right from the get go it captures you. It brings you into this dark world of mystery. Right away you just love Kabayashi. Soundtrack and voice acting are both VERY enjoyable. Overall first impression is incredibke and this series will probably be binges sadly :(
