Are jackpot candles worth it?
For the last few years, jackpot candles have been one of the most popular party trends. But are they actually worth it? If you're having a dinner party, will you really be able to use up all of those extra candles? And how much do jackpot candles cost anyway? Check out this blog post for answers to all your burning questions. 1. Why jackpot candles are worth it Jackpot candles are worth it because they’re affordable, last a long time, and can be used to make a whole room smell good. If you’re someone who can’t afford designer candles, scented candles are a good option. They’re a great way to fill up a room with a specific scent. They also make a great gift — if you can find a scented candle in the right size that matches the color of your existing decorations. How Do You Use Jackpot Lights? They can be used to create an intimate atmosphere. If you’re hosting a dinner party, sprinkling a few scented candles on your dinner table is a far better way to create an “nerdy but fun” atmosphere, rooted in the basic human need to connect and be social. So is it worth sacrificing your current candle collection for better bang for your buck? Let’s take a look at what people are saying: “I purchased 40-60 scent- and scent- candles to add to the house’s scent. I love them! The smell is subtle, yet noticeable. They smell like a spring evening with cinnamon and fruity-flavored fruits.” — Mollie R. “It takes a moment to get used to it, but once you do, your home/office smell is amazing. Sherri made the best batch I have yet!” — Carol S. “I use raised pool lights. I am writing my master’s thesis now and it smells great as I am writing.” — Tim G. “They start out the room smelling of candles but after awhile they can also smell like organic fruits and flowers.” — Brian P. “My candles from 8/$10. The only issue I had was jar they fell out and they weren't replaceable.” — Karen W. “The candles I’ve used so far, seemed high priced but their results have been excellent.” — Tim S. That said, like any party trend, there are tradeoffs if you want a great scented candle that lasts a long time. 2. How much do jackpot candles cost? Most jackpot candles cost $30-$50, depending on the size. Just make sure to read the fine print. Some candles have a $30 shipping fee if you don’t live in the US, or you’ll be charged an international shipping fee, which can add a few dollars to the total cost. The biggest benefit of using jackpot candles is that they can last up to six months, as long as they’re stored in a cool, dark place. If you purchase a small batch of candles for a dinner party, you may be able to use up all of them before the remainder run out. The biggest danger of using candles with high lume is the danger of spillage. Jackpot candles work by filling your home with a yellow light. The more of these you use, the more likely you are to drift off to sleep. Since manufacturers recommend using them only within a nine-foot cone, you should avoid placing more than two candles in one room. The problem with reading this article now is that most jackpot candles are discontinued after a limited time. It’s the same with a lot of other holiday party products. If you’re looking to maximize the value of your firework or traditional decoration purchases, do your research ahead of time. While most of these are relatively inexpensive, it’s always a good idea to avoid purchasing anything that has expiration dates. If buying a few candles is something that interests you this year, jackpot candles might be your best option. But make sure to take advantage of the great deals they’re currently offering if you want to save the best for last. Now go make the best out of your gift giving this year. 3. How many candles do you get in a jackpot candle? If you’re just starting out with jackpot candles, you might be wondering how many candles you get in a jackpot candle. You might also wonder how many candles you get in a jackpot candle that’s a certain size. I think we all understand what a miniature jackpot candle looks like. These are awful, and they cost a pretty penny to make, even if they look pretty. You probably have several little mini-sized candles tucked away. How many candles do you get in this ‘small’ candle? A “small” candle is really just that — it has less wax burned into it than other sizes. So, if there are 6 mini-sized or smaller candles, you could get 60 candles in this one. Or, if you had 9 mini-sized or smaller candles, you would get 103 candles. But of course, the larger the candle, the more wax (we’ll explain this later), so the bigger the candle, the more candles you get in total. A “medium” candle is just that: it has a little bit more wax in it than other sizes. Here, for example, are two “medium” candles — you get 85 in total, but only 60 of those are “medium” size. So, why are they called “medium” instead of “small”? Because they pack a lot more wax in there than some of the smaller candles. Let’s say you have 3 “medium” candles. You’ll have 153 total candles in your “small” candle. Medium-sized candles usually have around 12–15 to 18 candles in them, but well, “medium” isn’t always the size that comes with the most wax burned into it and therefore the most candles. If you have a 4th “medium” candle, you’ll get 183 total. Now we’re back to “small” vs “medium” — then the 4th candle would probably be “small” again because it would only have 4–6 candles in it. 4. How much wax is in a jackpot candle? Jackpot Candles are made from soy wax, which is a renewable resource. Soy wax is a healthier alternative to paraffin and beeswax candles because it’s free of toxins and is made from a renewable resource. The soy beans used to make soy wax are grown in the USA and are non-GMO and pesticide-free. For the last several years, the wax production process has remained pretty much the same. The candle factory produces the wax by adding small amounts of colored pigments to soy oil mixed with sand and beads. The resulting candle is then infused with essential oils, molecules that act as herbal medicine. Before you purchase a batch of candles, the factory will prepare some samples to give away to select customers (green, yellow, pink, blue, red, etc.). The point of this is to test out the colors for each batch of candles to make sure they all look the same. Once the test runs are over, the samples go to the general public. 5. Can you really use up all of those extra candles? The great thing about candles is that you can make them last longer if you know how to burn them properly. Here are a few tips: 1) Never leave your candle burning unattended. 2) Always trim your wicks. 3) Use glass containers to protect your wick from wick-eating insects. 4) Don’t be afraid to use clear containers, or you might lose all of those slimy green strands instead. 5) When you use a clear container, make sure you keep it away from other items like cutlery, plates, glasses, and silverware. 6) Lit candles To ensure your candle burns evenly without getting too hot, place it in a bowl filled with equal volumes of water and non-sparkling salt. The less water in the bowl, the less chance your candle has of getting too hot. If you use clear or plastic containers, fill them with the needed amount of water. (Glass containers work well for this.) Place the bowl over the candle, close the lid tightly and let the candle sit for a few minutes, until the salt settles. From time to time, flip the bowl upside down and pour more water in to make the water boil. Once the fluid starts to boil, gently lower the bowl over the candle and open it once the water has boiled away. It’s best if the surface of the water is perfectly even with no bubbles. Wait a few minutes for the water to cool before opening the cover. Then, place the container with the candle into the refrigerator to cool to room temperature. (A little dropping on the surface of the water isn’t a bad thing.) 6. 5 Celebrities Who Overcame Depression (And What You Can Learn)
A lot of people see celebrities as untouchable. That just isn't the case. Everyone experiences highs and lows. Nobody is impervious to the horrors of depression, but if these people are any indication, there is always hope! Take a look at some celebrities who have kicked depression's ass, and see how you can too. 1. Demi Lovato It's no secret that Demi has struggled with body image, self-harm and depression, but she uses her story as a testament to strength. She uses her music as a platform for positivity and her song, "Sky Scraper" is dedicated to those experiencing the same struggle. Demi checked herself into a treatment facility for bulimia, anorexia and bi-polar disorder. She experienced manic episodes and had a hard time adjusting to fame, but through her struggle she discovered she could help others. What you can learn: Demi preaches the "stay strong" mentality, and even has it tattooed on her wrists. Above all else if you can get through the next minute, next hour, next day, you will thank yourself because nothing on this earth is worth taking your life, or succumbing to depression. You will persevere. 2. John Hamm It may appear that Mr. Don Draper himself isn't lacking in the confidence department, but you'd be surprised. He is a testament to the fact that you never know what's happening inside of people's minds. His depression stemmed from the loss of his parents. He realized that there were options for him though, which is a great thing to learn from. He also learned to have no shame...because it's not something to hide. What you can learn: Sometimes professional help is really the best option. Work with a therapist, psychiatrist...whatever. Get some perspective, because you are NEVER as alone as you think. This is something I should take into account as well. 3. Pete Wentz The Fall Out Boy bassist has had a pretty public struggle with depression. I understand his guilt for being happy. That is something that people who are depressed never fully understand. Happiness does not have a price. When you're dealing with heavy things you feel like you owe the world for your success, your triumph. That's what depression does. What you can learn: Wentz found a fantastic creative outlet in his lyrics. He channeled his negative energy into creating some of the biggest pop-rock hits of this generation, and honestly people connected with him because of it, and in turn he felt less alone. Find something you feel safe doing, and do it. Putting your struggle out there is the first step to getting better. Because there are probably a million others just like you. 4. Lady Gaga Mother Monster has made herself a champion of positivity, but everyone has dark days. Her biggest struggle occurred at the end of 2013 when she couldn't perform because of hip issues. She then revealed during an Art Rave concert in London that she was on medication for depression. She wanted the audience to know that it's okay, and you shouldn't be ashamed of it. What you can learn: Gaga said that depression doesn't take away your talents. Often when we're feeling down we think that we're not worth anything. We feel like we have nothing to offer, and that's not true. It's easy for us to hate ourselves, the harder path is to love. It takes longer, it makes us think harder, but once that acceptance comes it will be a wonderful thing. 5. J.K. Rowling The most successful modern author on the planet had some hard times before her success. Her marriage dissolved after two years and it threw her into a tailspin. She lost her job and was working trying to support her children. She didn't see any hope, until she started working on Harry Potter What you can learn: Never say never. It doesn't matter what failures arise, you can get through them. By finding something to live for, like a story, a person or even some distant possibility, you will find your way back to happiness. Imagine if she had given up, where would we all be? We wouldn't have the beautiful Harry Potter stories, and an entire generation of people would have grown up completely differently. You will make an impact. You just have to give yourself the chance!
