A new study associating taste preferences with personality traits found some pretty crazy results. 500 were selected to rate their taste preferences in sweet, sour, salty, and bitter foods. Then, they were asked to take a series of personality assessment quizzes.
Some quizzes test their aggression and traits like narcissism, psychopathy.
Also the Big Five personality traits - extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness.
The results a pretty crazy.
Bitter food and drink (which include black coffee and beer) were more likely to score highly in measures of psychopathy, sadism, and aggression.
So essentially : "Taken together, the results suggest that how much people like bitter-tasting foods and drinks is stably tied to how dark their personality is,” the study authors concluded.
I’m a huge coffee and beer drinker, so this study definitely caught me off guard.
There could be hope for us coffee and beer drinkers...
“The researchers themselves point out, understanding what makes a person like a particular food is a complex knot of biology and psychology, influenced by her sensitivity to tastes and odors as well as past experiences.“
